There are several steps to becoming a "Blue Devil" and being admitted as a student at Duke University. The university has no benchmarks for grade point average, test scores or extra-curricular activities. However, it traditionally only admits the most qualified students. On average, only 13% of those who apply are admitted. The admission process includes the official application, recommendations, an essay, and the presentation of standardized test results. Steps
Method 1 of 2: Apply as a "Non-Transfer Student"
Step 1. Non-Transfer Student: student who does not come from other universities. Get a high school diploma and have your pre-university education include a robust curriculum, top-notch courses, extra-curricular activities, and above-average grades.
- Attend a high school that includes subjects such as natural sciences, 3 years of mathematics, a foreign language, 4 years of English and social studies. Include elective courses that demonstrate your willingness to accept challenges and broaden your basic knowledge.
- Engage in advanced level courses. Duke University is looking for students who have taken crash courses.
- Do extra-curricular activities. However, the Admissions Office warns students involved in too many activities. What he recommends is the quality of participation, not the number of activities.
- Try to graduate by ranking in the top 10% of the class. It is not a requirement for admission, but it is a source of pride for Duke University students.
Step 2. Take the necessary standardized tests
Duke University requires students to submit results for two test types of their choice: "American College Test" (ACT) or "Scholastic Aptitude Test" (SAT).
- Take over 29 with the ACT to apply as a humanities and science graduate student and over 32 to apply as an engineering student.
- Get the minimum score with the SAT, which is 680 in the oral tests, 690 in the math tests and 660 in the written tests.
- Presents the official results of standardized tests at Duke University. The Duke University SAT code is 5156, while the ACT code is 3088.
Step 3. Fill out the "Common Application"
The common application is a standardized college and university application used by many US institutions. Enter data regarding contact information, schools attended and other questions.
Step 4. Fill out the "Duke Student Supplement Form"
In this form you will need to provide answers to questions relevant to Duke University, for example if you have relatives who are graduates of Duke University or are employed by Duke University. It also includes optional questions as to why you intend to study at this university.
Step 5. Choose the question for "Early Decision" or "Regular Decision"
The "Early Decision" involves the school report for the first quarter and commits students to enroll if they are accepted for admission.
Step 6. Submit your non-refundable tuition fee to Duke University
Step 7. Coordinate with your high school guidance counselor to send your high school report card and grade history to Duke University
Step 8. Get two teacher recommendations to attach to the application
Duke University requires that recommendations come from teachers who have followed you for the past 2 years.
Step 9. Write and submit your short essay for your application
- Fully develop the outline when writing the essay. Tracks vary from year to year and are based on the degree program you intend to follow, but often relate to why the student wishes to attend Duke University. Provide an analysis and picture of yourself within the essay.
- Correct and edit the essay before submitting it.
Step 10. Consider submitting art material with the question
Students with artistic skills are encouraged to submit examples of their work.
Method 2 of 2: Apply as a "Transfer Student"
Step 1. Transfer Student: student who comes from another university. Fill out the "Common Application for Transfer Admission" and the "Duke Student Supplement".
Step 2. Submit your non-refundable registration fee
Step 3. Submit the grade history produced by the high school at Duke University

Step 4. Submit the exam history produced by the university you come from
Coordinate with the faculty or university to send the historian to Duke University.
Step 5. Get two recommendations from the professors
Step 6. Write an essay that fully develops the track and provides information about your personality
