If you work as a science teacher in middle school, your students' books will most likely have a diagram of an electroscope. Do you want to try to make it real by creating a 'home' version of this tool? Your students will cheer you on!
Steps
Step 1. Get all the necessary materials
See the full list of what you need in the 'Things You Will Need' section.
Step 2. Insert the copper wire into the through hole in the center of the rubber plug
Step 3. Make a pair of closely spaced 'U's, or two loops, at the end of the cable that will be inserted into the glass container
A pizza with beaks could be very useful. If you are unsure of what shape the copper cable should be, look for help in the image in this step.
Step 4. Fold the cable at the other end back on itself in order to lock it on the rubber cap and prevent it from accidentally slipping off
Step 5. Very carefully, place two metal clips, one for each 'U' or ring created on the copper wire, so that they hang loosely
The staples must be able to move without encountering resistance, being simply hung on the copper wire rather than fixed.
