Finding the mean in a group of numbers is pretty easy and is taught in elementary schools. But when you don't practice for a while, it's easy to forget, so why not brush up on your math?
There are three different ways to find the mean: Mean, Median and Fashion.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Average
Step 1. Find the result of adding the numbers in the group
In other words, additional.
Step 2. Divide by the amount of numbers in the group
For example: 12, 33, 26, and 11. 12 + 33 + 26 + 11 = 82. 82 divided by 4 (because there are 4 numbers in the group). equals 20.5, so the average is 20.5
Method 2 of 3: Median
Step 1. Arrange the numbers in ascending order
Step 2. Find the one in the middle of the sequence
Eg, 11, 12, 23, 42, 44. The median is 23.
If you have an even number of numbers, average the two numbers in the middle
Method 3 of 3: Fashion
Step 1. Determine which number appears multiple times in the group
This is fashion.
For example: in group 21, 22, 43, 21, and 33, the mode is 21 because it appears twice, while the others appear only once
Step 2. Finished
Advice
- Use pen and paper - it will make your life a thousand times easier.
- Most people tend to use the mean rather than the median and the fashion.
