A home or office owner who is able to do small chores should have no problem mounting an LCD TV to a wall, using mostly common tools. While it's a simple process, mounting an LCD TV on a wall isn't a one-man job. Generally it takes at least a pair to hold the device, depending on how much it weighs, and a third to fix the support frame to the wall. Allow about an hour to complete the job once you have all the necessary tools and the frame available.
Steps
Step 1. Make sure your LCD TV is ready for mounting
Most LCD TVs are ready to mount on the wall, so this probably won't be a problem. However, some of the older models can only be used on a stand and cannot be hung.
- To determine if your LCD TV is designed for wall mounting, check your manual to see if it is declared "VESA compatible". VESA, or Video Electronics Standards Association, identifies television sets that can fit into standard support frames.
- If you don't have the manual, look on the back of the LCD TV. If there are 4 or more screw inserts where the frame can be attached to the set, the television can be mounted on the wall.
Step 2. Choose the frame you intend to use to mount the LCD TV on the wall
Consider the size of your TV and the degree of inclination or rotation you want when choosing the frame. Some frames are fixed against the wall and will not allow the TV to move after you have mounted it. However, other LCD TV support panels allow you to move the TV away from the wall to rotate or tilt the corner. These frames typically cost more than the standard, fixed ones
Step 3. Choose the wall on which to mount the LCD TV and check that there are no obstacles, under the frame, where the cables will have to pass
Assembly is easier on the inside walls than on the outside ones, because you have to run the cables through the wall. The external walls have various impediments, such as reinforcements or refractory bricks which can make the passage of cables much more complex
Step 4. Determine the position of the TV on the wall
Make sure nothing is blocking your view of the LCD TV when deciding where to attach the frame to the wall.
Step 5. Add an electrical outlet behind the area where you will mount the appliance
You can bring an electrical outlet up to that point or install a timed outlet, as is recommended today.
You might also consider installing a surge protector that fits behind the LCD TV. They are quite small devices that can be hidden behind the appliance, but add additional electrical protection in the event of power fluctuations
Step 6. Use a metal detector to locate the posts in the wall
Fastening the frame for the LCD TV with 2 bolts in at least one post will help ensure that it remains fixed and stable once you attach the TV set. For heavier appliances, experts recommend attaching the support frame to at least two posts, with two bolts in each.
Step 7. Attach the mounting rails to the back of the TV
Step 8. Hang the LCD TV on the wall frame following the instructions included in the wall support frame package
The different types of frames require different solutions for fixing the TV set, so be sure to read the instructions to ensure the best protection for your TV.
Remember to install safety screws to prevent the television from falling if it is pulled or bumped
Step 9. Connect appropriate cables to the corresponding input positions on the LCD TV
Most of the time, these input connections are on the bottom of the back of the LCD TV or on one side.
