This article shows how to reactivate an Instagram account after having temporarily disabled it and how to regain possession of your profile in case it has been deactivated by the administrators of the social network. If your account has been deleted, the only option you have is to create a new one.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Reactivating an Account
Step 1. Make sure your account has been deactivated for a long enough time
After choosing to temporarily disable your Instagram account, it takes a few hours for the deactivation process to complete. During this time, you will not be able to reactivate the profile.
If your account has been disabled for more than a day, you should be able to reactivate it without any problems
Step 2. Remember that it is not possible to reactivate an account that has been deleted
If you have chosen to permanently delete your account, you will have no way to restore it.
Step 3. Log in to Instagram
Tap the app icon featuring a multicolored stylized camera.
Step 4. Enter your username and email address or phone number
Use the text field visible at the top of the window. To log in, you can use any of the credentials indicated, the important thing is that they are associated with the profile to be reactivated.
Depending on the screen that Instagram displays, you may need to press the button Log in before you can log in.
Step 5. Provide the security password
Type in the "Password" text field.
If you have forgotten your profile login password, you will need to reset it
Step 6. Press the Login button
It is located at the bottom of the screen. If your login credentials are correct, your account will be reactivated and you can start using it again right away.
Step 7. Follow any instructions that appear on the screen
Depending on the length of time your account has been disabled, you may need to accept the new changes to the terms and conditions of use of the service or have to re-verify the phone number associated with the profile.
By logging in, your account will be automatically reactivated, so you won't need to perform any special operations after regaining access to Instagram
Part 2 of 3: Requesting the Reactivation of a Disabled Account
Step 1. Verify that your account has actually been suspended by the Instagram administrators
Launch the app and try to log in using the correct credentials. If after pressing the button Log in the message "Your account has been disabled" (or something similar) appears, it means that your profile has been disabled by the Instagram administrators for a violation of the terms and conditions of use of the service.
If you get an error message (for example "Wrong username or password"), your account has not been disabled. In this case, refer to the "Troubleshooting Login Issues" section to find a solution
Step 2. Access the account reactivation request form
Enter the URL https://help.instagram.com/contact/606967319425038 into the address bar of your computer's browser. You can use the form indicated to send a reactivation request directly to the Instagram administrators.
Step 3. Enter your name
Type your name and surname in the "Name and surname" text field at the top of the page. Enter the information relating to the Instagram account you want to reactivate.
Step 4. Provide your username
Type your Instagram account username into the "Your Instagram username" text field.
Step 5. Enter your email address and phone number
Type them respectively into the text fields "Your e-mail address" and "Your mobile number".
Step 6. Submit your request
Enter the text of the reactivation request in the last text field at the bottom of the page. Follow these guidelines to write your request:
- Explain that your account has been disabled, in your opinion by mistake;
- Avoid apologizing because doing so would simply confirm that you have committed a violation of the rules;
- Use polite and friendly language without appearing aggressive or rude;
- Finish your request by wishing you a good day, giving your greetings and thanking in advance for the help you will receive.
Step 7. Press the Submit button
It is blue in color and located at the bottom of the page. The activation request will be sent to the Instagram administrators. If they decide to reactivate your profile, you will be able to access Instagram again as soon as you receive the notification of reactivation.
You may have to submit several requests for several days before receiving a response
Part 3 of 3: Troubleshoot Login Issues
Step 1. Try logging in using your email address or phone number
If you are unable to log into your account using your username, consider trying using the associated email address or phone number.
- Conversely, if you normally log in using your email address or phone number, try using your username.
- You will always need to enter the correct security password, regardless of whether you are using your username, email address or phone number.
Step 2. Reset your password
If you can't remember the correct password to log into your Instagram account, you can reset it using your smartphone or computer.
Step 3. Turn off your smartphone's Wi-Fi connection when you log in
If the Instagram application is the cause of the problem (and not your login credentials), using your mobile data connection instead of a Wi-Fi connection, you should be able to log in without problems.
Step 4. Use a different platform to log into Instagram
Your smartphone or computer may have cached incorrect information that prevents you from logging into your account. If this is the cause of the problem, using a different platform should fix the situation.
Step 5. Uninstall and reinstall the Instagram app
In some cases, by reinstalling the program, the login problems caused by the application are automatically resolved.
If the Instagram app is not updated to the latest version available, update immediately to make sure it can't be the cause of the problem
Step 6. Evaluate the hypothesis of having infringed the conditions and terms of use of the services offered by Instagram
If you have received an error message stating that the account you tried to log in with does not exist, it is likely that it has been deleted because you have somehow violated Instagram's terms and conditions of use.
- Typically, the most common violations include posting nude pictures, engaging in bullying behavior towards other users, promoting the sale of dangerous products and fraud.
- Often, after violating the terms of use of the Instagram service, the account is suspended or deleted without any notice or explanation.
Advice
- The use of third-party services that access the Instagram API (for example an app for automated posting or a service that tells you who has unfollowed you) will almost always cause the deactivation of the account.
- Back up your Instagram photos to make sure you don't lose any data in case your account gets deleted.
- Instagram has a bug that sometimes prevents you from logging in even if your account is perfectly in order and functioning. For this reason you shouldn't panic if you can't connect. Try to be quiet, wait a day and then try again.
