This article explains how to play an audio file using two separate Bluetooth speakers at the same time. If you're using a Mac, you can take advantage of a tool built into the operating system to play your music through any two Bluetooth speakers, regardless of make and model. If you are using a Windows computer, you will need to use two Bluetooth speakers that can be connected together (usually these are two speakers of the same type).
Steps
Method 1 of 2: macOS
Step 1. Pair the Bluetooth speakers to the Mac
If you haven't already, follow the instructions in the device manual to connect them to your Mac via Bluetooth.
Step 2. Open a Finder window by clicking on the icon
It is the first icon listed in the System Dock.
Step 3. Click on the Go menu
It is located at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Click on the Utility option
Step 5. Double-click the Audio MIDI Setup icon
A window titled "Audio Devices" will appear.
Step 6. Click on the + button
It is located below the left pane of the window. A small drop-down menu will appear.
Step 7. Click on the option Create device with multiple outputs
The list of all loudspeakers connected to the Mac will appear in the right pane of the window.
Step 8. Select both Bluetooth speakers you want to use
Select the check button located to the left of each device name. All the speakers you select will be used simultaneously to play Mac audio files.
Step 9. Name the new device with multiple outputs
It is helpful to perform this step as this will make it easier for you to locate the new device within the audio settings menus. Double-click the item Device with multiple outputs listed in the left pane of the window (most likely it will be the last item in the list), then type the name you want, for example "Bluetooth_Casse".
Step 10. Set the new device as the default for Mac audio output
The final step of the setup is to tell the Mac to send the audio output signal to the Bluetooth speakers you just added. Follow these instructions:
- Click on the "Apple" menu and select the item System Preferences.
- Click on the icon Sound.
- Click on the tab Exit (it's the second listed at the top of the window).
- Click on the name you assigned to the audio device with multiple outputs that uses the Bluetooth speakers connected to the Mac (for example "Casse_Bluetooth").
Method 2 of 2: Windows
Step 1. Turn on both Bluetooth speakers
In order to use two Bluetooth speakers with a Windows computer at the same time, you need to use two speakers that can be connected together. Normally you need to buy two devices of the same model, but in some cases this function is also supported for different models as long as they are of the same brand.
Step 2. Pair the Bluetooth speakers to your computer
If you haven't already, turn on Windows Bluetooth connectivity and connect the speakers to your computer. Follow these instructions:
- Click on the Windows "Search" function icon (normally it is characterized by a circle or a magnifying glass and is placed next to the "Start" menu).
- Type the bluetooth keyword into the search bar that appears.
- Click on the option Bluetooth and other device settings.
-
Activate the "Bluetooth" slider by moving it to the "On" position
(only if it is currently in the "Disabled" position).
- Press the pairing mode activation button on the first Bluetooth device, then wait a few seconds to verify that it actually enters pairing mode.
- Click on the button + Add Bluetooth or other device.
- Click on the item Bluetooth.
- Click on the name of the Bluetooth speaker.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing step.
- After you have paired the first Bluetooth device, repeat the same procedure to pair the second one as well.
Step 3. Use the Bluetooth speaker manufacturer's app (if available) to connect the two devices together
Some speaker manufacturers provide a Windows system app that can be used to pair two devices together. If this is the case, start the program in question and look for the option to connect multiple speakers together.
Step 4. Open the Windows audio settings window
Follow these instructions:
- Click on the Windows "Search" function icon (normally it is characterized by a circle or a magnifying glass and is placed next to the "Start" menu).
- Type the keyword audio into the search bar.
- Click on the item Audio settings, then select the "Audio Control Panel" link.
Step 5. Select the Speakers item, then click the button Default.
It is located in the lower right part of the window.
If the "Default" button is not clickable, it means that the selected speakers are already set as the default audio device for playback, so you can continue reading the article
Step 6. Click on the Registration tab
It is the second displayed at the top of the window.
Step 7. Select the Stereo Mix device with the right mouse button
If the indicated element is not visible, select with the right mouse button an empty point in the box and click on the option Show disabled devices. It should now have appeared in the list.
Step 8. Click on Enable
This will instruct the computer to use a stereo audio signal instead of mono.
Step 9. Select the Stereo Mix device and click on the button Default.
A green and white check mark will appear on the "Stereo Mix" device icon.
Step 10. Select the Stereo Mix device again, then click the button Property.
It is located to the right of the "Default" button.
Step 11. Click on the Listen tab
It is the second displayed at the top of the window.
Step 12. Select the "Listen to device" checkbox
Step 13. Select the second Bluetooth speaker using the "Play through this device" drop-down menu
This is the speaker which is not currently set as default in the "Playback" tab.
Step 14. Click the OK button
Step 15. Click the OK button again
At this point the "Audio" dialog will close.
Step 16. Restart your computer
After the reboot is complete you should be able to play audio files in stereo mode using the two Bluetooth speakers connected to your computer at the same time.
