Few vehicles can compete with the full convertibility of the Jeep Wrangler. It not only allows you to remove the roof, but also the doors. This can reduce the weight of the car and improve performance, as well as being an advantage for those who need to get in and out of the car numerous times in a day. If you want to learn how to remove the doors of a Jeep, follow these steps.
Steps
Step 1. Remove the doors
This is a simple operation on most Jeep models.
- Loosen the nuts along the bottom of the 2 hinges of each door with a 13mm wrench. If you are concerned about scratching the paint off the nuts, wrap them with masking tape before loosening them.
- Remove the door straps. April and follow the straps on the connectors under the dashboard. Gently lift the red tab at the bottom of the strap, and lift the connector. Then disconnect the straps from the restrictive hooks.
- Lift the doors off their hinges and set them aside.
Step 2. Remove the mirrors from the doors
The side mirrors are bolted to the doors of most Jeep models. You will need to use a mirror removal kit to remove them from the doors and put them back on the vehicle.
- Use a T40 Torx screwdriver bit to loosen your screws right under the wiper, near the base of the mirrors.
- Take the plates from the kit and place them in place on the loosened screws. Slowly squeeze them into the hollowed out areas of the mirror brackets.
- Use a 17mm socket wrench to loosen the nuts connecting the mirrors to the doors. Remove the mirrors and set the nuts aside.
- Attach the mirrors to the kit's black cases and slide them into the brackets. Put the washers from the removal kit at the bottom of the screws. Slip the nuts over the connections and tighten them enough not to move them, but with a minimum of mobility for any adjustments.
Step 3. Turn off the interior lights
When you remove the doors of a Jeep, the interior lights will stay on. There are various ways to turn them off.
- Remove the attached fuse - find the fuse box near the handbrake. Remove the “Anti-lock” fuse to deactivate the interior lights and related warning light.
- Turn off the light: install clips on the interior light sensor, inside the door support. Spring clips attach snugly and eliminate the need to remove fuses.
Advice
- Jeep doors are expensive. Take precautions to protect them while they are in stock.
- If you remove the “Anti-lock” fuse, be sure to keep it in a safe place. You will need to reinstall it when you reset the doors.
- The nut that holds the door mirror in place can be problematic to remove. If you can't, saturate it with a strong lube, and let it sit for about 3 hours.
