Learning to read notes is important for musicians. Just by looking at the notes of a sheet music, professional musicians are able to play them right away. It is as if they are reading a book written with letters. Singers can do the same, with “singing at first sight.” They can read the score, hum silently to themselves, and then sing the song immediately.
Steps
Step 1. To learn how to sing at sight you will need to know the musical notes and be able to read them quickly
You will need to hear them in your ear so that you can reproduce them with your voice. A piano or keyboard is required to play notes, learn scales and recognize sharps and flats.
Step 2. Practice playing each note, and focus on its sound
Keep playing, ending with your eyes closed, so that your ears can hear the notes without the help of the eyes.
Step 3. Constant practice will train the brain to reproduce what the ears hear
It is a similar technique to that used to learn to type. By not looking at the keyboard, we teach the brain to put its fingers on each key. Consequently, it is the brain that learns, while our ears listen.
Step 4. Keep in mind that many singing students who only study intervals may not be able to use the right intonation
It is important to be able to read any melody, and immediately be able to hear its sound in the mind.
Step 5. Studying just the notes of the scale is not enough to become a good singer
It is very important to learn the major and minor key scales, and to learn to follow the rhythm. If you are a student who wants to learn self-taught, you can read one of the many good books. It can be very useful to have a piano or keyboard to practice.
