Have you always wanted to create a great choreography, but were never sure how best to do it? Follow these steps and you will get a large number of them in no time!
Steps
Step 1. Choose a song
The song depends on the kind of dance you want to perform in. Make sure the rhythm is ideal for the movements you are going to create. If you are a classical dancer, choose soft, slow music, if you are a hip-hop dancer, you will probably need a more lively rhythm pop base.
Step 2. Find out who will dance with you if you intend to perform with someone else
You will need to coordinate the movements, whether it is a duo or a group dance. Be sure to schedule rehearsals together.
Step 3. Once you have chosen the perfect song, divide the lyrics of the song into small groups of words
If the song has no lyrics, a good idea will be to break it down into segments of 10-20 seconds each.
Step 4. Think of dance steps you can do and arrange them to match the text and rhythm
Start by dividing the lyrics into sets of four to eight lines, depending on the tempo of the song. Assign a certain number of "moves" to each set. Make sure you finish each set with a movement that can easily follow the next. Make sure that your dance does not literally reflect the words of the text (for example, at the word "fire", it is not necessary to imitate fire).
When the chorus or refrain comes along, try to make the movements a little more complex. Since they are repeated two or three times in a song, it's good to create more engaging moves for this part. Create similar movements for each chorus, but not the same. While audiences may like such repetitions, it is better to be more varied
Step 5. Create dance steps that go well with each of the musical segments you have chosen
Try to make sure that the movements match the tempo of the music well and / or communicate the lyrics.
Step 6. If you are dancing with a group of friends or teaching a class, make sure everyone knows the movements of a part before moving on
Step 7. Train
To say that practice makes perfect is not exactly true. In dance, training improves us, and ultimately the improvement leads to perfection. Make sure everyone knows every part and every movement in each of the sections. Organize several rehearsals to train and make sure you know the choreography and that the execution is good before you perform.
Step 8. Get other people's opinion
Show the choreography to your parents and friends and let them comment and criticize the performance.
Step 9. Once the choreography is completed, find a way to coordinate your clothing (ex
wearing red shirts and black pants).
Step 10. Make sure you show a nice smile during the performance
Enjoy the feeling of being the center of everyone's attention, and also the joy of doing what you love.
Advice
- Remember not to give up even if it is tiring; if you persist you will be able to do so sooner or later.
- Make sure you have enough space in the place where you train. Otherwise, someone could collide with something and get hurt.
- Experiment while rehearsing, so if you don't like something you can change it.
- When creating the dance steps, it is good to start with basic foot movements and then add arm and head movements.
- The choreography will take some time, because it is necessary to follow the time and every step counts. Also try to interpret the music and create a story… Train hard to achieve perfection; you can also practice with a friend or partner.
- If someone in the group was not very good at gymnastics, it would be wise not to make them do any athletic moves (lean back, do the wheel, or human pyramids).
- If you are dancing with a large group of people, don't create too complicated steps. Keeping it simple is better than doing it wrong.
- Have the audacity to perform in front of an audience.
- Don't try to fit too many steps at once, as you may not be able to handle them.
- To make the dance piece more interesting, you could whip up some steps to do with a partner. For example, you could hold hands and then turn on yourself, or stand facing each other and go up and down alternating the movement.
Warnings
- Don't push (you or others) more than you can actually do.
- Do not create any movement that may cause anyone to feel uncomfortable or cause physical harm.
- Don't choose music that might be considered inappropriate for the younger audience.
