The APA style is a writing format created by the American Psychological Association. It is used primarily in the social and behavioral sciences, but is also used in academic writings at undergraduate and graduate levels, in non-profit organizations, and in for-profit organizations in the medical and social services fields. Along with a specific editorial style, the APA has rules regarding the notes and works cited in the bibliography. This article will tell you how to cite an APA-style annual report.

Step 1. Write the name of the company and the year in which the annual report was published

  • Write the legal name of the company followed by a period. Be sure to include the organization type if it is part of the official name.
  • Add a space and then write the publication date of the annual report.
  • Enclose the date in parentheses and add a period. For example, the 2000 annual report of XYZ Corp. published in 2001 would be cited as: XYZ Corp. (2001).
  • The title can be found on the cover page of the report.

Step 4. Enter the author name

  • Add a space after the status.

  • If the XYZ Corp annual report was written by William Brown, the quote is:

XYZ Corp. (2001). XYZ Corp. Annual Report.. Smith, WI: William Brown

Advice

  • The abbreviations for the states of the United States of America are those used by the national postal service, the United State's Postal Service.
  • The publication date of an annual report is usually at least one year after the date to which the document refers. For example, citing an annual report published in 2001, we normally refer to financial information and activities from 2000.
  • If some of the information about the report is not available, quote it using whatever information you have available. To make it clear that the information is not available, include "unknown information" where that information should be entered. For example, if the publication date for XYZ Corp. was not indicated, the APA-style quotation would be: XYZ Corp. (Date unknown).
