If you've landed on this page, your closet is probably in bad shape. Fortunately, however, ordering is not impossible. All you need is a day off (because it takes time to do it), a few simple tools and a little commitment. If you feel like giving it a try, keep reading!
Steps
Step 1. Make sure your room is clean so it doesn't create even more clutter
Open the closet and remove all dirty clothes. Put them in a basket or in the washing machine.
Step 2. Sort the clean clothes into several piles to fold and put in the closet:
-
T-shirt.
-
Shorts.
- Sport trousers.
-
Jeans.
-
Sweaters.
-
Top.
Step 3. Hang the following types of clothing:
-
All those that crease easily.
-
Blazers / jackets / vests.
-
Long-sleeved shirts.
Step 4. Arrange the following items neatly in the dresser:
-
Socks.
-
Belts.
-
Socks.
-
Underwear.
Step 5. If your closet is small, try dividing it into several sections so that everything is easier to find and feels more spacious
Step 6. Remove all clothes from the closet and make a pile of clothes that don't fit or that you don't like anymore
Then, wash them all. Put the rest of the items you want to keep in the washing machine, especially those that have a bad smell or traces of mold, because they may have been indoors for a long time. Better wash them, otherwise the whole room could get smelly. After washing the clothes you will keep and putting them back in the closet, the smell will be more pleasant.
Step 7. Organize the shoes on the shelves or inside special boxes
Put them away neatly and label all shelves or boxes ("Sandals", "Boots", etc.).
Step 8. Do you have a walk-in closet?
Clean the carpet or floor with cleaning products. At this point, it will be clean and well organized.
Step 9. Sell the clothes you no longer want on eBay, or better yet, give them to a charity or sell them for a good cause
Knowing that you have helped people less fortunate than you will make you feel good. You could also give them to a brother or cousin as a gift. In this way, you will be of use to someone and will get rid of the clothes you no longer wear.
Step 10. Once the cabinet is empty, clean it thoroughly
There are several ways to do this, but to save money, just mix soap and water.
Step 11. If you have a walk-in closet, set up shelves to hold everything you need (not necessarily clothes) on it
Add bag hangers and a shoe rack. You can also put a laundry basket in it, so you will often remember to do the laundry, you won't have too many dirty clothes piling up, and your closet won't be as messy as it used to be. Visit the wikiHow Cleaning category to find out how to wash and iron your clothing.
Step 12. Don't add unnecessary items to the closet, such as posters
They will only get in the way of this space, and it will feel too full.
Step 13. Finally, once the cabinet is clean, spray some Febreeze or Oust to make it smell good
Advice
- Listen to some music, it will help you feel motivated. Don't get distracted while cleaning.
- Spray an air disinfectant into the closet often. In short, choose a citrus aroma or one that recalls that of freshly hung laundry, in short, that is pleasant and tastes clean. Go for the one you prefer.
- Now that the closet is clean, you will feel much more relieved and your mind will be freer than before. Not only have you improved the look of your room, you will look better too. Give yourself a whim, you deserved it.
- Carefully clean the closet once a month, so the work you have to put into it will be little.
- Do your laundry at least once a week. There is no need to overflow the laundry basket.
- Organize clothes by color. For some it is easier than doing it by dividing them by type of garment (jeans, sweaters, etc.). Dividing them by color will help you quickly prepare what you will wear.
Warnings
- Don't get lazy. Throwing clothes in the closet because you don't want to fold them or put them in the laundry basket will cause confusion in the long run. Try to dedicate yourself to cleaning your wardrobe once a month, but every day make a little effort not to contribute to the clutter.
- Don't throw away torn or frayed clothes. Give them to someone who needs them, sell them at a thrift store or have them fixed by someone who can sew.
