This article explains how you can open a PSD format file (created via Photoshop) on an Android device using the PSD Viewer, Adobe Photoshop Mix and Google Drive apps.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: PSD (Photoshop) File Viewer
Step 1. Save the PSD file to the Android device
You can skip this step if the file you want to view already exists on your device. Follow these instructions to transfer the file from your computer to your device:
- Connect the Android device to the computer using the supplied USB cable;
- Access the device notification panel and select the option to transfer files via USB connection;
- Open the "Finder" window (on Mac) or "File Explorer" (on Windows) then locate the icon or folder corresponding to the Android device;
- Access the folder on your computer that contains the PSD file to be processed;
- Copy the PSD file from the computer to the internal memory of the Android device;
- When the file copy is complete you will be able to disconnect the device from the computer.
Step 2. Log in to the Google Play Store
The corresponding app is characterized by a red, blue, orange and green arrow icon. It is usually located on the Home or in the "Applications" panel.
Step 3. Type the keywords "psd file viewer" into the Google Play Store search bar
The result list generated by the search will be displayed.
Step 4. Select the PSD (Photoshop) File Viewer app
It will appear within the search results list. Selecting it you will be redirected to the Play Store page dedicated to the app in question.
Step 5. Press the Install button
This way the PSD File Viewer app will be downloaded and installed on your Android device.
Step 6. Launch the PSD (Photoshop) File Viewer app
Tap the corresponding icon
to access the "Applications" panel or press the button You open which will appear on the Play Store page at the end of the program installation.
Step 7. Open the Photoshop file using the PSD File Viewer app
The file will be displayed as an image within the program.
Method 2 of 3: Edit PSD Files with Photoshop Mix
Step 1. Save the PSD file to your Creative Cloud account sync folder
If you want to use your Android device to edit a layered PSD file you've created in Photoshop, the first step you'll need to take will be to upload it to your Creative Cloud account. Follow these instructions:
- Visit https://assets.adobe.com and log in with your Adobe account;
- Click on the item File displayed on the left side of the page;
- Click on the icon depicting an arrow pointing up and a stylized cloud. It is located in the upper right corner of the page;
- Select the file to upload and click on the button You open.
Step 2. Install Photoshop Mix by downloading it from the Play Store
This is a free app produced by Adobe that allows you to edit the layers that make up a PSD file using a mobile device. Follow these instructions to install:

Log in to Play Store by touching the icon

- Type the keywords photoshop mix into the search bar;
- Select the app Adobe Photoshop Mix;
- Push the button Install.
Step 3. Launch the Adobe Photoshop Mix app
The corresponding icon (characterized by a blue square with two slightly overlapping circles in the center) should have appeared on the device Home or within the "Applications" panel.
Step 4. Sign in with your Adobe account
Step 5. Press the + button
It is located inside the bar displayed on the left side of the screen.
Step 6. Select the Image item
It is displayed at the top of the appeared menu.
Step 7. Choose the Creative Cloud option
It is located on the left side of the screen.
Step 8. Select the PSD file and press the Open button
If you have stored the PSD file inside a subfolder, you will first need to access that subfolder to be able to select it.
Step 9. Choose the Extract Layers option
You will have two options for separating the layers:
If you need to view the file without making any changes, choose the option Use as an image, rather than the one that plans to open the file with all the levels merged into one.
Step 10. Select the View and Search Levels item
The list of all the layers that make up the file will be shown.
Step 11. Select the first level
It is the one displayed last in the appeared list. A new composition will be created based on the chosen layer.
Step 12. Add the rest of the layers respecting their order
Follow these instructions and repeat the process until you have added all the layers in the correct order (starting from the last in the list to the first):
- Push the button + and choose the voice Image;
- Choose the voice Creative Cloud;
- Select the PSD file and press the button You open;
- Choose the option Extract layers;
- Select the option View and search levels;
- Tap the name of the next layer to add to the composition;
- Repeat the sequence of steps until you have entered all the layers of the file.
Step 13. Edit the image
Tap the preview icon of the layer you want to select. It is located on the right side of the screen. At this point, use the tool you want, located at the bottom of the screen, to make the changes you want to make to the image.
Step 14. Save your work
When you have finished making changes, tap the icon
located at the top of the screen and select the option Send to Photoshop, then follow the onscreen instructions to upload the new file to your Creative Cloud account.
Method 3 of 3: Using Google Drive
Step 1. Save the file you want to view on your Google Drive account
If the file in question is stored in your Gmail inbox, select the corresponding email and follow these instructions:
- Push the button Save to Drive. It is normally displayed within the preview icon of the email attachment;
- A menu will appear from which you can select the folder of your Drive account in which to store the PSD file;
- Select the option Save to complete the process.
Step 2. Launch the Google Drive app
It has a white icon with a yellow, blue and green triangle inside. It is stored in the "Google" folder.
Step 3. Access the file you want to view
After uploading the PSD file to your Google Drive account, select the folder where you stored it using the app menu.
Step 4. Open the PSD file
Simply select the icon containing the preview of the file to open it. Since Google Drive supports a wide range of formats, the PSD file should open without any problem.
