This article explains how to open and view the contents of a PPT file (a PowerPoint presentation) using a Windows computer or a Mac. The PPT file format is the proprietary format of Microsoft PowerPoint and is supported by all versions of the program. If you don't have a copy of PowerPoint, you can use Google Slides or PowerPoint Online (a free version of PowerPoint accessible directly from the web).
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use PowerPoint
Step 1. Locate the PPT file you want to open
Open the folder on your computer where the PPT file under consideration is stored.
Step 2. Click on the PPT file icon with the right mouse button
The context menu of the file will be displayed.
Step 3. Place the mouse cursor on the Open with item
A submenu will appear where you will find the list of programs installed on your computer that can open a PPT file.
Step 4. Select the Microsoft PowerPoint app from the "Open With" menu
This way the PPT file in question will be opened with PowerPoint. At this point you can view and edit the presentation according to your needs.

- Alternatively, you can use Apache OpenOffice (downloadable from this URL) or Apple Numbers (downloadable from here).
- To open the PPT file with a program other than PowerPoint, simply select it from the "Open With" menu app list.
Method 2 of 3: Use Google Slides
Step 1. Access the Google Slides website using your computer browser
Type the URL https://docs.google.com/presentation into the address bar of the browser and press the Enter key.
If prompted, log in using your Google account
Step 2. Click the folder icon in the upper right of the "Recent Presentations" section
A new pop-up window will appear allowing you to select the PPT file to open.
Step 3. Click on the Upload tab
It is located in the upper right of the "Open a File" dialog box. This will allow you to select the PPT file stored on your computer to upload to Google's servers and open with Google Slides.
Step 4. Click the blue button Select a file from device
It is located in the center of the "Upload" tab box. The system window will appear allowing you to select the PPT file to open.
Alternatively, you can click on the icon of the PPT file in question and drag it into the "Upload" tab
Step 5. Select the PPT file
Locate the file to open using the dialog box that appeared, then click on the corresponding icon to select it.
Step 6. Click the Open button
The PPT file in question will open in Google Slides.
Method 3 of 3: Use PowerPoint Live
Step 1. Access the PowerPoint Live website using your computer browser
Type the URL https://office.live.com/start/PowerPoint.aspx in the address bar of the browser and press the Enter key.
If prompted, log in using your Microsoft account
Step 2. Click the Upload and Open link
It is located at the top right of the page and is characterized by an icon with an arrow pointing upwards. A system window will appear.
Step 3. Select the PPT file you want to open
Use the window that appears to access the folder where the file you want to open is stored, then click on the corresponding name to select it.
Step 4. Click the Open button
The PPT file will be uploaded to your Microsoft account and opened with PowerPoint Live within the browser.
