Here's an easy sewing project to keep you warm in the winter… a wool hat that changes into ear flaps or neck warmers! Customize yours or give variations to friends for winter holidays and skiing trips.
Steps
Step 1. Measure the head that will fit the hat
You will need the circumference (length around) and the distance between one lobe and the other, passing over the skull.
- Add 5 cm to the lobe / skull measurement.

Step 2. Cut two wool rectangles using these measurements
The two rectangles can be any color (or colors) of your choice.

Step 3. Sew each rectangle into a tube by sewing the narrow ends together

Step 4. # Sew the tubes together on one side
Place one seam facing "out" and the other seam facing "in" so that the smooth sides (where you don't see the seam) are facing each other. Then pin and sew the ends together.

Step 5. Flip the tubes inside out so that the seams are now hidden from view and the seam you just made forms the end of the material

Step 6. Make a fold between 1/2 and 3/4 "(1.25 - 2 cm) away from the previous seam, forming a channel (tube to thread through the lace)

Step 7. Turn / roll the remaining "raw" or unstitched edges 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) inwards and pin them

Step 8. Hem the stapled edges together

Step 9. Sew an additional seam two inches from the bottom edge

Step 10. Open the channel seam

Step 11. Tuck a (new) shoelace into it
You can use a safety pin or ribbon to help you.

Step 12. Pass both ends of the lace through the string stopper

Step 13. Tie them firmly together

Hat Gather the cords to form a closed fleece hat.

Step 15. Loosen the string and fold to form an ear flap
Step 16. Loosen the cords and pass it over the head on the neck for a comfortable neck warmer
Advice
- Depending on who will receive the hat, you can return it again more nice if you take some wool with a design!
- Peculiar shoelaces can be a cute lacing for your hat.
- Decorate with stitching, special embroidery, sequins, shapes, or fabric paints. The sky is the limit when it comes to personalizing!

- Scissors and needles are sharp. Handle with the right care.
