Here are some easy ways to be kind and warm when you want to greet someone in the Philippines.
Steps
Step 1. Don't fret
Filipinos are used to speaking English so you can just say "Hi", "Hello", "Good Morning" etc.
Step 2. However, if you are trying to impress your friends, you can say "Kumusta kayó?
"(" How are you? "). Pronounced / kah - mu: s - ta: ka: - yo: /
Step 3. Remember that everything you read in Tagalog is phonetic
Try reading it as you see it written. The vowels are harder than in Italian. The / o / is the only vowel that is pronounced with a circular mouth.
There are however some exceptions: ng is pronounced "nang" and mga is pronounced "muhNGA". The "-ng", which is a single letter, is pronounced as in 'ba ng ' and in 'I know ng '.
Step 4. If you are talking to someone who is older than you or from a higher social class, always add "po" to sentences and use "oo" to say "yes"
"Po" is usually placed at the end of a sentence, such as "Salamat po" (Thank you).
Step 5. If you get stuck and don't know what to say, speak English, as most Filipinos understand it
But if you want to impress them, then keep studying their language!
Step 6. You can learn Filipino (the national language) by reading books, watching television, listening to music or watching videos
As with any other language, the ideal is to practice speaking with someone who is a native speaker.
