The "Mori girl" fashion was born in Japan in 2007. "Mori" in Japanese means "forest", and the style is that of "a girl who lives in the forest": the look is therefore natural and earthy. The archetype par excellence that represents this style is Hagu, a character from Honey & Clover. The symbol par excellence for Mori fashion is instead the actress Yuu Aoi, who in fact played Hagu in the 2006 film Honey & Clover. Being a "Mori girl" is not only fashion, but also a lifestyle! Peculiar girls who love vintage dresses, pocket watches, tea, moss and snooping in grandma's attic are ideal candidates for this style. Even if the Mori girl is natural, that doesn't mean it's simple! Mori girls are in fact also complex.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Get dressed
Step 1. Wear earthy colors
Skirts and dresses are the main items of clothing, but blouses and sweaters are fine too. Fantasy is very important, as Mori girls usually wear wool, gauze and cotton. Don't forget to dress in layers - some girls wear long skirts under short dresses, or scarves and shawls over sweaters and skirts.
Step 2. Choose the right colors
Earth tone colors such as antique white, white, beige, brown and ivory are very fashionable among Moorish girls. However, you can also add colors like mustard, dark blue, burgundy and dark green. It mainly uses colors that you can find in a forest - the colors need to be natural and calm.
Step 3. Choose the right shape
Mori girls are unaware of their bodies. This means they avoid clothes that are too tight and tight. Rather than sizes S-M choose L-XL. Don't forget to wear lots of layers of clothing. This will create a natural volume.
Step 4. Layers
Most Mori girls choose layered dress outfits. Dressing in layers can be difficult because many people make the process very complicated. Be simple. Start by layering a dress with a skirt, or two tops. Dressing in layers doesn't mean having lots of accessories. Remember that each layer must be partially visible.
A Mori girl must look like someone who actually lives in the forest, so you probably want to be comfortable, right? To help achieve this look, try on layers of tights, wool socks, and granny boots
Method 2 of 4: Makeup and Hair
Step 1. Style your hair in the Mori style
The Mori girl can have a lot of hair, straight, wavy, styled or gathered. The important thing is that they are natural. You can use rubber bands or bows. Flowers and berries are very popular hair accessories for the Moors.
- Hair can be of any style, as long as it looks natural. Waves, braids, buns or pigtails embellished with flowers or lace are popular, but work with the natural texture and color of your hair, as overall this style focuses on the pursuit of being natural and healthy.
- Do not use a hair dryer or blonde dyes.
Step 2. Keep your makeup as natural as possible and don't resort to anything over the top
Choose eyeshadows in natural, earth tones. If you want to totally avoid makeup. Keep your skin clean. Use shampoos with natural oils, they are perfect for this style.
-
Pink cheeks. Mori girls love round pink cheeks; use pink or red blush for this look. Or opt for natural cheeks.
- Try to keep the face look fresh and natural. Use a good liquid foundation, then also use a powder to give your skin a natural glow.
- If you're an Asian girl, don't wear round lenses to tone down almond-shaped eyes, unlike most Harajuku styles that idealize those big doe eyes. Just use some mascara, or a white, brown or pink eyeshadow if you really have to.
- Keep your nails short, clean and shiny, or paint them pale pink or pearl.
- Try wearing a tinted lip balm instead of lipstick - as a balm it gives a more natural finish and stays longer.
Method 3 of 4: Accessories
Step 1. Choose the right accessories
Flowers always look good, in your hair, on your scarf, on your sweater or on your shoes! Lots of delicate and unique things like lace, pendant cameos or floral jewelry are fine. Necklaces, rings and bracelets are first and foremost all you need, but don't overdo it: too much is good! Try going to a flea market to search for vintage jewelry.
Method 4 of 4: Lifestyle
Step 1. Read the list of the Mori girl
Are you a Mori girl? The Original Mori Girl Community on Mixi has created a list with 60 rules to understand if you are a real Mori.

Step 2. Live your life
Mori girls "feel" the world with their own hands, as they love to drink tea and exchange clothes with friends, take a plane, cycle or simply walk. They are also interested in European culture, such as that of Ireland, France and Germany. Mori girls also love to take pictures. Though shy, Mori girls are sweet ladies with good manners and delightful style.
Step 3. Embody the free spirit, living in your own world
Stop and take the time to sit on a park bench. Write a diary and also use it to dry flowers. Go for a walk in the city or in the woods. She spends two hours lying down staring at the sky or re-reading In the Folds of Time. Do what makes you happy, and don't think too much about what people say. Live life for yourself, and not for someone else - at least until the time comes to pay the bills …
Step 4. Be creative
Have you ever seen a real Forest Girl? None of us have ever seen it. So be creative and use your imagination to create an idea of the perfect Mori girl, and imitate her! Your interpretation as a Mori girl may be totally different from another, but they are both correct!
Step 5. Listen to alternative music
Alternative music, or "shoegaze", is a movement born in London, very popular in Japan. Moorish girls also love “natural”, Celtic, folk, instrumental or music from all over the world. Other examples are Cecile Corbel Agnes Obel Amelie Loizeau
Step 6. Read magazines
"Spoon" magazine is the bible of the Moors! It is a Japanese photo magazine that deals with the fashion and trends of Mori girls. Other important magazines, always Japanese, are "Fudge" and "Mori Girl Papier".
Step 7. Enjoy your life
It can always be beautiful! If you can love and care for the world you live in, you will find joy in even the smallest things. This is what Mori girls do! So have fun being a Mori girl, create your own style, and don't be afraid to be the person your parents raised. Enjoy life to the fullest!
