Crochet in the round allows you to create circular objects such as hats, coasters, decorations, placemats and even mugs. Once you've mastered the basics, throw yourself into round shaped projects by following these instructions.

Steps

Step 1. Make a chain stitch (C) of 4 stitches

Step 2. Slip stitch in the first chain stitch to form a loop, inserting the hook inside the first stitch

Step 3. Make 8 single crochet (pb) around the ring:

  • Insert the hook in the center.
  • Wrap the thread.
  • Pull the thread through the circle. You should find yourself with two loops on the crochet hook.
  • Wrap the yarn again and pull it through both stitches on the hook.

Step 4. First round:

make two single crochets in each stitch of the previous round. There will be 16 points. To make a single crochet:

  • Point the hook through both threads of the stitch in the previous round.
  • Wrap the thread and pull towards you. You should have two loops on the crochet hook.
  • Wrap the yarn and pass it through both loops.

Step 5. Second round:

* chain the first stitch, then two single crochets in the next one. Repeat from * three times.

Step 6. Third round:

* chain in the first and second stitch, two single crochets in the third. Repeat from * to the end of the round.

Step 7. Continue increasing to make a flat circle:

  • Fourth round: make a flying chain in the first three stitches, two single stitches in the fourth of the previous round.

  • Fifth round: make a flying chain in the first four stitches, two single stitches in the fifth.

  • Do you see how the scheme develops? To continue, add two stitches at point n, where n stands for the number of the round you arrived at.

Step 8. Finish by fixing the wire

Advice

  • You don't have to use only single crochets. Other stitches can also be used (e.g. double crochets). Try to change points on each lap.
  • To understand where the round ends, put something that marks where you started.

Curving upwards To give a three-dimensional curved shape (for example, to make the cap of a hat), do not increase for a few turns.
