Wiccans and other neo-pagans who practice Magic Rites create a sacred circle within which rituals are performed. The circle acts as a portal to the realm of divinities, as a protection from the forces of evil, and more simply as a psychological tool to put you in the right mood. The circle indicates protection.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Creating the Circle
Step 1. Find a safe place to create your circle
It can be indoors or outdoors, at midnight or early in the morning. There is no ideal place for the magic circle, so there is no need to travel to a remote place if it makes you psychologically uncomfortable. The best place is wherever you feel comfortable and comfortable, able to communicate in the way you want, and in the way appropriate for any ritual or ceremony you hope to perform. If this is your bedroom, basement, or garage, that's fine.
Make sure the venue is private and free for the duration of the ceremony. Being interrupted in the middle of a ritual is a frustrating and even dangerous experience
Step 2. Purify the place where you want to make your circle
First, it purifies the environment physically, tidying the place up and making things right. If you are outdoors, clear the area of branches, leaves, and stones. Afterward, cleanse the area spiritually. Meditate, use your hands (or a wand or broom if the practice involves these elements) and drive the negative energy out of the place.
You can also use a witch hazel-based cleaning product to clean up the area, a couple of drops in each corner of the room and around the circle area should be enough
Step 3. Physically set boundaries if you want
To do this, draw a circle on the floor, sprinkle it with salt water, or circle it with a string (be sure to tie it). In any case, the circle is usually wider than your height.
Alternatively, if you are outdoors, you should use elements of nature to create your circle. Create the circle with rocks or other natural elements, if you see fit for your ritual or practice
Step 4. Place all the objects you plan to use in your ritual inside the circle
Once you begin the practice, you should stay in it and not break the connection until the ritual is completed. You cannot take a "break" and go get an important candle or totem after you have started the ritual. Gather everything you need to get started and get ready.
- If you are going to offer something to a spirit, remember to include it along with everything you need to prepare it.
- Other common items to include in the ritual are totem poles, black candles, crystals, knives, bells, bowls of salt, and bowls of water. Arrange these objects, whatever they are, to form an altar. Get a plane to arrange them on, such as a box or crate with a small black tablecloth. The altar must face north when you are in the circle to complete your ritual.
Step 5. Complete the circle
Place candles or other objects in each cardinal direction. Don't turn them on yet. Some Wiccans choose something that represents Earth in the north, Air in the east, Fire in the south, and Water in the west. Follow whatever steps are appropriate for the ritual you desire.
Salt, a stone, or a green candle could represent the Earth. Incense, broken glass, or a yellow candle can symbolize air. Water in any container, or a blue candle for Water. A red candle or a cigarette is good for Fire. If you have a deck, you can also use the Tarot Aces
Part 2 of 2: Using the Circle
Step 1. Bless the circle
How you choose to use the circle once it is created is largely up to you, your practice, and your goals. In general, however, you can begin to bless the area and free it of negative energy, starting the invocation of the spirits. Some covenants are very formal and ritualize their practice, while others are not. Do what feels natural to you.
Walk around the circle, light the candles, leave a trail of salt around the edges. In each cardinal direction, recite an invocation such as: "Blessing to the creatures and spirits of the North."
Step 2. Indicate the purpose of the circle
Walk around it three times, saying, "I throw the circle three times, to keep evil spirits away."
I adjure you, O Circle of Power, that you are a place of love, joy and truth; a shield against all wickedness and evil, a boundary between men and the realms of the Mighty, a bastion and protection they must preserve and contain the power that raises us to you
Step 3. Invoke the elements, spirits and deities you want to attract to you
Call them with the objects that represent them. Take each object that represents the elements around the circle, filling them with the power of each of them.
Meditate for a while. Meditation or astral projection could be the main action, or the one that serves to change your consciousness
Step 4. Complete your ritual
Remember: "And don't harm anyone, do what you want." If you have to leave the circle before you're done, cut a door (literally, imagine a door being cut from the edge of the circle. Close the circle again, once you're back inside).
Step 5. Close the circle when done:
pay homage to all the deities you invited, thank the elements before removing the objects that represent them, and finally cancel the circle by making the circle in the opposite direction.
Advice
- Freshly picked flowers could also represent the earth, a lit and then extinguished match (smoke) could represent air, a bowl of tap water or rainwater could represent water, and a candle or match could represent the fire.
- Try different methods of making the circle. Find what makes you feel comfortable: change what you want.
Warnings
- Be sure what you are doing - if you work with magic make sure it is truly your last resort.
- Make sure you are not disturbed: in addition to feeling uncomfortable, it could be dangerous for mental health.
