Making someone breakfast in bed is a nice gesture. While the traditional breakfast in bed is pretty simple - you make breakfast and serve it on a tray so the person can eat it while sitting - it's more fun to put in a little more effort when you prepare it. Here are some tips to make breakfast in bed even more special.
Steps
Step 1. Get a tray that has small raised edges
This way the food will be safer inside and any leaks will not fall on the bed. There are small specific tables for this use. If you can't find one, use a laptop desk.
Step 2. Decide what you will prepare for breakfast
Here are some ideas:
- Prepare a tropical, healthy and refreshing breakfast.
- Make an egg waffle. This is slightly healthier than a traditional waffle, but if you really want to spoil someone, make a French toast waffle.
- Serve a bagel. Be sure to include several delicious toppings and a variety of bagels.
- Cook a full English breakfast. Serve an English muffin with some eggs, orange juice, coffee or tea.
Step 3. Prepare breakfast as quietly as possible, so as not to wake the lucky person
If you can make the ingredients the night before, do it. If you're making coffee, spread a towel over the bottom slot of the bedroom door to keep the odor from getting in. (All this if you want breakfast in bed to be a surprise).
- Make sure you clean up after cooking. If the person you're spoiling after getting up finds the kitchen in dire condition, they may quickly forget about the gift they just received.
- Make sure you know how to make good coffee or tea. Don't forget to bring cream and sugar if the person usually uses them in their hot drinks.
Step 4. Pour liquids only 3/4 of the way through the container
This is a particularly important step for hot liquids, as you will need to avoid spilling them on the bed or person when you move the tray.
Step 5. Add some nice touches:
- Place a single flower on the tray, or sprinkle petals on it.
- Add edible flowers to plates and around dishes.
- If you're using cloth napkins, fold them into a pyramid.
- You can also fold a paper napkin into a rose (not the one it will use, an additional one for decoration).
- Make a card that says something nice.
Step 6. When you bring your breakfast, set it aside as you prepare the area
Use a stand such as a coffee table. Fluff the cushions and add more to make the person sit more comfortably. Spread out the blankets so you can open the legs of the tray. If the tray is flat, add books or something strong for support.
Step 7. Turn on the television, play some music, or give the person something to read while eating
And of course feel free to stay close and talk!
Step 8. When the person is done, tidy up
Take the tray and clean the dishes. Another excellent touch is to prepare a hot bath and while the other person is enjoying it, make the bed!
Advice
- Choose a time when the person eating breakfast doesn't have to prepare quickly. They are good choices on weekends and special holidays.
- Bring your breakfast on a large, easy-to-carry tray so you don't have to travel again.
