This article explains how to change the sensitivity of a mouse on Windows, Mac, or a Chromebook. This is a very simple procedure on all three platforms: it allows you to quickly change how you will have to move the mouse pointer on the screen based on the actual movements of the device.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Windows
Step 1. Access the "Start" menu by clicking on the icon
It features the Windows logo and is located in the lower left corner of the desktop.
Step 2. Launch the Settings app by clicking on the icon
It features a gear and is located at the bottom left of the "Start" menu. The Windows "Settings" window will appear.
Step 3. Click the Devices icon
It is located at the top of the menu that appeared: it is characterized by a stylized acoustic box and keyboard.
Step 4. Click on the Mouse tab
It is the third option listed at the top of the left sidebar of the window, under the "Devices" section. The mouse configuration settings will be displayed within the main pane of the page.
Step 5. Click the Additional Mouse Options link
It is located in the "Related Settings" section of the page. The "Mouse Properties" dialog box will be displayed.
Step 6. Click the Pointer Options tab
It is displayed at the top of the "Mouse Properties" window.
Step 7. Change the speed at which the mouse pointer will move according to the movements of the device
Drag the cursor inside the "Movement" section, located in the upper part of the window: then move it to the left or right, respectively to decrease or increase the speed of movement of the mouse pointer according to the movements made by the device.
Step 8. Turn off pointer precision enhancement to decrease mouse speed
If the mouse pointer moves too fast on the screen, uncheck the "Increase pointer precision" checkbox located in the "Movement" section. This feature allows the mouse to dynamically vary the pointer movement speed based on the speed at which the device is moved or the trackpad is used.
Step 9. Test the sensitivity of the mouse
Try moving the device to see how the pointer moves on the screen. If the mouse pointer moves too fast, drag the "Movement" slider to the left. On the other hand, if the mouse pointer moves too slowly, drag the cursor to the right.
It may take several minutes to find a mouse configuration that fits your needs
Step 10. Click the Apply buttons successively And OK.
They are both located in the lower right of the mouse properties window. The new settings will be saved, applied and the dialog will close. At this point, the mouse pointer should move at the speed you set.
Method 2 of 3: Mac
Step 1. Access the "Apple" menu by clicking on the icon
It features the Apple logo and is located in the upper left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 2. Click on System Preferences…
It is one of the options present in the drop-down menu that appeared. The "System Preferences" dialog box will appear.
Step 3. Click the Trackpad icon or Mouse.
If you are using a portable Mac, you will need to click on the icon Trackpad, while if you are using a desktop Mac you will have to click on the icon Mouse.
Step 4. Click on the Point tab and click
It is located at the top of the window.
If you clicked on the icon Mouse, skip this step.
Step 5. Edit the "Pointer Speed" slider
Drag it to the left to reduce the speed at which the mouse pointer moves, or drag it to the right to increase it.
Step 6. Test the sensitivity of the mouse
Try moving the mouse pointer on the screen. If it moves too fast, drag the Pointer Speed slider to the left. If it moves too slowly, drag the slider to the right.
It may take several minutes to find the correct mouse calibration for your needs
Step 7. Close the "System Preferences" window

Advice
- If you need to change the DPI (from English "Dots Per Inch") value for a mouse designed for gaming, it is very likely that you will have to do it through the device settings window. For more information, see the mouse instruction manual. Some mice dedicated to the gaming world are equipped with two physical buttons that allow you to change the value of the DPI in real time.
- If you are having trouble using the mouse after changing the motion sensitivity settings, this could be due to a buildup of debris and dirt on the underside of the device. The solution to the problem could be to simply clean the mouse.
