What a great feeling to wrap yourself in a soft and delicate towel once you get out of the shower. But all towels are the same. Here's how to find the one that's right for you.
Steps
Step 1. Learn what to make a towel good
To start, towels differ in fabric depending on their purpose, be it for the body or for the dishes. The things to remember are:
- Absorbency comes from maximizing the surface area. Cotton towels are best for hands and body while linen towels are good for plates and glasses.
- The spongy fabric is the most absorbent. It is ideal for hands and body because it dries on both sides, having a larger surface available.
- Textured linen is a combination of linen, cotton and rayon perfect for dishes. It serves to increase evaporation.
- Damascus linen is good for glasses where there should be no streaks.
-
Pure linen is super absorbent and strong. Naturally resistant to bacteria, it does not leave halos on the glassware and absorbs up to 20% of its weight in water.
Step 2. Consider the fabric material
High quality towels are usually made of long cotton fibers. Some of the most expensive are Egyptian or Brazilian cotton. Difficult to find, Supima cotton is another type of excellent fiber made from an American cotton.
Step 3. Test yourself
In the shop try to feel and see if the towels meet your needs.
- Watch carefully. Do the fibers stand upright like grass in a garden? It is a good sign! If, on the other hand, they are flat as pins, the quality is not good.
- Try them. Are they soft? Or bristly? If the towel is soft and velvety to the touch as well as a certain weight, it is of good quality. If it is rough or it looks like canvas, the opposite (otherwise said don't buy towels in shops for 1 euro!).
-
Check the size. If you are tall or plump, look for towels that are larger than average, they will dry you better and faster.
Step 4. Go shopping
- Look for offers. Decide what shopping you want to do. If you want the best quality it will cost you more. However, the more expensive towels will also last longer so in the end you will amortize the cost and you will not have to replace them with softer ones.
-
Find towels that are the same color as your bathroom. Remember that those colored with use discolour. White towels can always be bleached to make them white again.
Advice
- The GPM factor (grams per square meter) is primary - above 550gpm towels are great. Check the mass type: single 16s, single 12s, double 21s with a good base can guarantee softness and durability.
- The dryer makes towels softer than those you hang out in the air.
- A normal size is fine for a person of average height but for taller or larger builders. better bath towels. For example, a good size could be 68x136. Feeling wrapped in a super soft towel like a cloud is a great feeling!
Warnings
- Always wash a new towel before use. There may still be chemical residues from the manufacture.
- Bleaching softens them but consumes them. Do not use fabric softener on kitchen towels so they will last longer. In addition, those made of linen pre-washed with an industrial softener can leave streaks on the glasses.
