Having a nice facial expression is a small change that can have very positive effects on your life. It can be that extra detail that allows you to make friends, get a job, start a relationship, or get help later in the day. To have a pleasant facial expression you must first be aware of the appearance of your face. Afterwards, you can make some small changes to always be able to look friendlier.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Take Awareness of Your Face
Step 1. Study your resting facial expression
There is not always a direct correlation with your state of mind. Many people simply look serious and this can create an uninviting air. Take a picture of your resting face and observe your expression.
- Would you feel comfortable talking about this and that with a person who has your expression?
- If you were on the bus and someone with your expression showed up, would you interact with them?
Step 2. Ask other people for their opinion
You cannot have an unbiased opinion of an image of your face. The best way to understand what your resting facial expression feels like is to ask others. If you feel like it, ask strangers. Relatives and friends have gotten used to your face and will often reply "It's just your face". To get a truly honest opinion, ask a stranger what emotions your face conveys.
Step 3. Learn to use your face muscles
The best way to do this is to learn how to move your ears. Look in the mirror and start practicing. You will likely notice that you raise your eyebrows, squint your eyes, and open and close your mouth. All of these movements use different muscles. Keep practicing until you can move your ears, as this represents awareness and control of the facial muscles.
Learning to make small facial movements will help you control your muscles and create a pleasant expression
Step 4. Learn about nervous habits
These can prevent you from showing a pleasant facial expression. Biting your nails or having nervous tics can be considered unprofessional behaviors because they give the impression that you are uninterested and distracted.
If your facial tics - including wrinkling your nose, squinting, blinking, moving your mouth, or grimacing - are uncontrollable problems, you can learn to reduce them over time with hypnosis
Method 2 of 3: Make Changes
Step 1. Practice at home
Look in the mirror and practice the changes to your face. Notice how your mood changes when you change expression. Remember which movements make you feel better, so you can practice them all day for a pleasant expression.
- Take a pen and put it between your teeth, imitating a smile. Do you feel happier?
- Now take the pen and hold it between your lips pushed forward, so as to pout. You should feel more miserable.
- Practice the sounds of vowels. A long "i" forces you to smile, while the "a" mimics the expression of surprise. Both induce positive feelings.
Step 2. Be interested
Note the tilt of the head. Tilting your head slightly is an unconscious signal that you are involved and paying attention. This leads you to have a more pleasant attitude.
Avoid always checking your phone, watch, or other people's reaction
Step 3. Soften your eyes
Make eye contact with people and pull your eyelids slightly closer. This is a different movement from wringing; try it in the mirror. The eyes are more inviting when they are fully open but relaxed.
Step 4. Keep your mouth relaxed
Keeping your lips neutral or pouting is a much less inviting aspect. April slightly to relax the facial muscles and transmit heat. Once your mouth is relaxed, lift the corners of your lips.
Step 5. It becomes more pleasant on the inside as well
If your pleasant expression is forced, other people will often notice and become suspicious. The best way to avoid the problem is to really feel the emotions you are trying to convey. Every morning think about the reasons to be satisfied. Take a few minutes for this reflection and keep that feeling throughout the day.
- Think of friends and family.
- Consider the achievements you have recently achieved.
- Start following Instagram profiles that post positive quotes.
- Buy a daily calendar with a cute animal on each page.
Method 3 of 3: Feel Comfortable and Smile
Step 1. Smile when it is appropriate to do so
This gesture has two beneficial effects: it gives you a more pleasant appearance and makes you feel better. Smiling makes people who see you feel comfortable, because it gives the impression that you are the first to be happy. When you smile, you contract your cheek muscles, reducing blood flow to the cavernous sinuses. This cools the blood reaching the brain, leading to pleasant sensations.
Step 2. Focus on uncomfortable situations
If you find yourself in an unpleasant situation, remember to keep a pleasant expression. To arouse positive feelings, just move the muscles of your face as if you were happy. In other words, facial expression affects your mood.
Step 3. Feel confident in your appearance
Always touching your clothes or hair reduces the positive effect of your pleasant expression. People will understand that you feel uncomfortable and will start to have doubts about your sincerity. Showing confidence along with a nice expression allows you to have an attitude that will make others feel comfortable and interested in you.
