Memorizing the Holy Text brings many benefits. When we know what God said about it in difficult situations, facing obstacles becomes simple. There are even bible verse memory contests (www.biblebee.org) where you can compete for $ 100,000. So: how to make sure that the verses remain etched in your memory?
Steps
Step 1. Go to a quiet place, such as the bedroom, where no one can interrupt you
Get comfortable, lean on pillows if you prefer. There should be no distraction in the room. Turn off the music and don't answer the phone. You need to focus.
Step 2. Ask God to help you understand the meaning of the verse you are studying and how it might help you in your daily life
Prayers are very powerful, but you will never be able to know how much God affects your life, until you talk to Him every day and expose your problems.
Step 3. Save the reference
Repeat it aloud at the beginning and end of the verse (John 3:16). This way, you will memorize it more easily.
Step 4. Repeat the verse aloud
Change your acting speed and focus on pronouncing every single word clearly.
Step 5. Focus on the keywords
For example, if you are memorizing John 3:16 "Because God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life", the key words in this case would be "God "," Beloved "," World "," Son "," Anyone "," Heir "," Perish "," Eternal Life ". Now join them together with the whole verse.
Step 6. Play a memory game
With erasable highlighters, write the verse on a slate. Make sure you can read what you write. Read the verse several times and delete 2 words at a time. Keep repeating the verse until you have crossed out all the words on the board. At this point, if you can remember the whole line, pat yourself on the back.
Step 7. Repeat the above steps every day
Repeat the lines in your mind when you go to the supermarket, for example. Recite them aloud when you take your dog out. When you are sure you have memorized them, tell them to your family and friends!
Step 8. Write the verses on a card with different colors
Stick them around in places where you spend the most time like bed, nightstand, bathroom mirror etc …
Step 9. Study verses that promise you a good memory such as John 14:26, 1 John 2:20, I Corinthians 1: 5, Proverbs 10: 7, 1 Corinthians 2:16 or Hebrews 8:10
Advice
- Remember that God cares more about what your heart reflects than the verses you have memorized. He doesn't care how many you learn, the important thing is that you follow His Word.
- Do not rush. Don't babble. Say the words clearly and think about their meaning.
- Put the lines you learned into a song and sing it when you can.
- For every time you repeat a line in your mind, also repeat it aloud at least 5 times.
- Games like Sparkle are of great help!
- If you have a Smartphone (iPhone or Android), search and download an application that helps you memorize the verses of the Bible.
