Skinny Jeans are denim or denim blend trousers that have a good fit, especially from the knee to the ankle. They fit snugly around the knee, but it happens to many people that after a few hours of wearing them and walking or bending over, jeans lose grip in the knee. As with all types of jeans, the same effect can happen to the waist if the wearer bends over or sits down often. Looser denim can make you look less attractive, and make you feel like your jeans are baggy and uncomfortable. To keep your skynnies from stretching out, choose a good quality one from a brand that makes them snug and be sure to wash and dry them carefully.
Steps
Step 1. Choose a good quality brand
-
Read reviews online and ask your friends and family which skinny ones tend to stretch less.
- A high price tag doesn't necessarily mean jeans will be less prone to flaring. Focus more on consumer feedback when looking for skinny jeans that won't stretch.
Step 2. Choose jeans that contain some spandex along with the denim
Unwanted skinny widening occurs when denim is pulled excessively due to bending of the knees or movement at the waist. If the jeans contain some elastane, the fabric accompanies the folding. Conversely, jeans made only with denim fold together at the knees but do not have the necessary elasticity to return to their original shape. Although jeans with spandex are folded, they retain the ability to stretch so they don't create that stretched look of pure denim jeans
Step 3. Take your measurements, or ask a sales person to measure you, to make sure the jeans you choose are the right size
When skinny jeans are too small, the areas of the knees that should be tight tend to stretch and widen. This gives the jeans an awkward look and doesn't feel comfortable
Step 4. Wash the jeans with the gentle cycle of the washing machine and with a good quality detergent and dry them with cold air
The fibers may weaken with excess heat, with the use of mild detergents and during drying. You could cause them to enlarge, shrink, lose color and make them more prone to rips and tears
Advice
- If you can't dry them, put them in the dryer on the lowest setting. Avoid high heat because it causes the fibers to shrink, making the jeans more prone to stretch, and they won't have a good fit when you wear them.
- Avoid wearing jeans when they are wet or damp, as moisture makes the denim fibers more susceptible to spreading. They will tend to stay loose if worn while still wet, as movement helps to widen them.
- Always check and follow the washing instructions on the labels, some jeans require special care to prevent them from losing their shape, shrinking or discoloring.
