Long hair is alluring, versatile and consistently stylish. You can leave them loose or take advantage of their length to create always different and sensual looks. Growing them long and healthy is not an easy task, but by taking care of them daily you will be able to have them as strong and beautiful as you wish. Use quality products, such as those used by hairdressers, to strengthen them and keep them healthy. Also make small changes to your diet and exercise daily to stimulate growth. With a little bit of effort and patience, you will be able to get the super long hair you want.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Modify the Daily Beauty Routine
Step 1. Brush your hair with delicacy.
You should use a natural boar bristle brush. Start from the tips and gradually go up towards the roots to eliminate the knots; try to melt them very slowly and be careful never to pull the hair too much so as not to risk breaking or tearing it at the root.
- If you have it available, apply a strengthening or moisturizing product before you start brushing your hair to minimize the risk of split ends.
- Don't brush wet hair or you may break it.
Step 2. Massage your scalp daily
You should make gentle, circular movements with your fingertips to soothe the skin. This will stimulate blood flow to the hair roots, which will then grow faster.
- A good time to get a scalp massage is in the shower while you wash your hair.
- If you do this with dry hair, apply a few drops of hair oil to your scalp to avoid pulling it too hard.
Step 3. Wash your hair three times a week
By using shampoo every day you risk them becoming dry and consequently growing more slowly. Washing them three times a week should be enough to keep them tidy and clean. On days you don't use shampoo, you can still rinse them with water and use conditioner. If they seem dirty or lacking in volume, you can apply dry shampoo only where needed.
Step 4. Remember to deeply moisturize your hair every time you wash it
The conditioner serves to replenish the oils that have been washed away by the shampoo. To have strong and healthy hair, able to become very long, it is important to rehydrate it with a quality conditioner immediately after using the shampoo.
In addition to your regular conditioner, try a deep treatment once a week. This will add extra shine and strength to your hair
Step 5. Change the position of the ponytail
If you have a habit of doing a ponytail or bun every day, try not to place the elastic or clips in the same place all the time because rubbing against the hair can damage it and slow its growth. Collect them a little differently every day.
- To avoid breakage, use only fabric-covered rubber bands. Don't use rubber ones.
- Avoid styling your hair when it is still wet.
Step 6. Use a microfiber towel instead of a terry cloth
The fibers of common terry towels tend to trap the hair when we rub them to dry. To prevent them from breaking or tearing at the root, you should use a microfiber towel specially formulated to absorb excess water from your hair without damaging it. This will also prevent split ends from forming.
Step 7. Trim your hair about 1cm every 1-2 months
Neglecting the ends of your hair for too long is very likely to form split ends. Gradually the hair could divide up to the roots and slow down its growth. In fact, ticking them regularly helps them grow faster.
Step 8. Use a silk pillowcase
Those made of linen or cotton, while they seem soft to the touch, are rough enough to grip your hair and cause it to break when you move your head on the pillow. Switch to a silk pillowcase to put an end to this problem.
Method 2 of 3: Use Hair Growth Stimulating Products
Step 1. Apply a mask to moisturize your hair once a week
Go to a perfumery or hairdresser and invest in a quality product. Remember to apply it every seven days, from roots to ends. Leave it on for the time indicated on the package and then rinse your hair thoroughly. This will keep them strong and hydrated, so they'll get long more easily.
Step 2. Apply a serum to protect them from the heat before blow-drying them or iron them with the soleplate.
Unless you take the necessary precautions, heat severely damages your hair. You should apply a heat-protecting serum from the roots to the ends whenever you intend to use a blow dryer or any other styling tool. Better yet, if you want your hair to grow faster, you should try to style it with heat only on special occasions.
Use the straightener or curling iron only occasionally, for example to make yourself beautiful for a Saturday night
Step 3. Choose a shampoo with natural ingredients
Before purchasing any product, you should carefully read the label to verify its composition. Shampoos that contain mostly natural ingredients and only a minimal amount of chemicals are the best option for your hair.
- Avoid shampoos that contain ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES) as they generally damage the hair. Other ingredients you should avoid include: parabens, fragrance substances, benzyl alcohol, and sodium benzoate.
- In general, it is better to opt for a shampoo with a short list of ingredients and preferably of natural origin, such as oils and other plant derivatives, rather than chemical additives.
Step 4. Use a leave-in conditioner
It is a product that can seal the moisture inside the hair in order to keep it hydrated and protected throughout the day. You can also apply it after using regular conditioner to prevent cracking.
Step 5. Nourish your hair deeply with a monthly protein treatment
You can have it done by the hairdresser or buy a product that can be easily applied at home. Unlike common masks, these treatments contain hydrolyzed proteins that strengthen the hair and promote its growth.
Step 6. Massage your scalp with essential oils before going to sleep
Add a few drops to a carrier oil, pick a small amount with your fingertips and start massaging the hair roots gently. Essential oils that promote health and hair growth include those of lavender, rosemary, thyme, grapeseed, palm and argan.
Applying pure essential oils directly to the skin is harmful and dangerous. Use a carrier oil, such as extra virgin olive oil, to dilute them. Remember that it only takes a few drops added to 1-2 tablespoons of the carrier oil
Method 3 of 3: Improve Your Lifestyle
Step 1. Eat healthily
A healthy and balanced diet ensures that the hair receives the nourishment it needs to grow and become super long. Foods that can help you get the hair you want include salmon, nuts, spinach, blueberries, yogurt, and sweet potatoes.
In addition to eating healthy foods, try to limit those that are bad for your body, such as those high in fat, sugar, packaged and fast food
Step 2. Drink to keep your body hydrated
Make an effort to drink a large glass of water before each meal, keep a bottle of water in your bag, and stop every time you come across a fountain. While eating, you should avoid drinking carbonated drinks or those that contain added sugar. Keep in mind that the more water you drink, the faster your hair will grow.
Step 3. Relieve stress
High levels of stress damage the body in many different ways, such as slowing hair growth or even causing hair loss. Find ways to relax and catch your breath.
- Try to relieve stress by practicing yoga, meditating, or doing deep breathing exercises. You can take classes in the gym, but also online.
- Try to exercise regularly. When you exercise, your brain releases substances that have different functions, including endorphins that relieve stress and are good for your body's health in other ways as well.
- Seek the company of friends and family when you are stressed. Talking about the things that worry you can be enough to make you feel better.
Step 4. Take a biotin supplement every day
It is an essential vitamin for the growth of the proteins that make up nails and hair. Ask your pharmacist for advice to buy a supplement that suits your needs and take it respecting the doses and directions for use to help hair strengthen and grow faster.
Also ask your doctor for advice before taking any type of supplement
Step 5. Meet your daily vitamin requirement
Most of what you need to keep your hair healthy is in the fruits and vegetables you eat every day, but with the help of a supplement you can get more. Choose a multivitamin or a supplement of vitamins A, B2 and E that improve hair health.
