Maybe you've regretted your short haircut or are looking to make it grow fast for an event, but don't know how to do it in just one week. A few simple actions, like changing the way you care for them and using a few remedies, can help you grow them faster in a short time. You can also change your diet, eat different foods, and take vitamins that encourage hair development.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using Hair Treatments
Step 1. Get a scalp massage with warm oil
This massage uses the properties of natural oils to improve scalp health and promote hair growth. You can use coconut, olive, jojoba, and argan oil. However, know that there is no scientific evidence that proves the effectiveness of this type of massage.
- Start by heating some oil on the stove or in the microwave. Check it before using it, to make sure it is not hot; it must have a comfortable temperature that does not cause damage to the skin and hair.
- Using your fingers, gently massage your entire head with the warm oil in slow, circular motions. If your partner or friend is around, ask them to help you and massage your entire scalp with your fingertips for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Then run the oil along the entire length of your hair and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Wash your hair well with shampoo, preferably more than once, to remove all traces of oil.
- Perform the oil massage on the days you normally shampoo, so as not to risk washing them more than usual.
Step 2. Make a mask
Take care of your hair and stimulate its hair follicles to accelerate growth by applying a mask once or twice a week. You can make your own with a natural oil, or buy it from health food stores or pharmacies without a prescription.
- Combine 240ml coconut oil with 1 tablespoon of almond, macadamia and jojoba oil. Apply the created mask on damp hair and leave it on for 10 minutes. When finished, wash your hair and apply conditioner as you normally do.
- To avoid washing your hair too much, do the mask on days when you normally shampoo.
Step 3. Try a castor oil treatment
This oil is known for its benefits on the skin and hair. By applying a castor oil mask you can help your hair grow faster and healthier.
- Start by massaging your scalp and let the oil flow into your hair. Then wrap your hair and head in a plastic cap to keep the oil in place. You can also place a towel on the pillow to avoid greasing the pillowcase.
- Let the oil work overnight. The next morning, wash off and apply a conditioner as you usually do, making sure you get rid of all the oil.
Step 4. Use an apple cider vinegar rinse
This product is very effective in removing build-up of dust, dirt and oil from your hair, as well as residues from styling chemicals. You can use apple cider vinegar as a natural alternative on days you don't shampoo or after a normal shampoo and conditioner wash.
Add two tablespoons of vinegar to 480ml of water and use this mixture to rinse your hair. Even though the water will have a strong vinegar smell, keep in mind that it will eventually fade
Method 2 of 3: Change Your Hair Care Routine
Step 1. Shampoo two or three times a week
Reduce washes to just two or three times a week, in this way you allow the sebum present on the scalp to penetrate into the hair, hydrating and regenerating it.
- If you notice that your scalp is very greasy or itchy when you limit shampooing to twice a week, you need to increase the frequency.
- To wash your head properly, massage the shampoo into your scalp only and then run it over your hair strands while rinsing.
Step 2. Use conditioner every time you shower
Unlike shampoo, you should always use conditioner when bathing your hair in the shower instead. The conditioner helps to replenish lipids and proteins in the hair shaft and facilitates faster and healthier growth.
Step 3. Rinse your hair with cold water after showering
This will help seal the cuticles and keep the hairstyle longer.
Consider reducing the temperature of the shower water when you wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner, so you don't overheat it with the water and steam
Step 4. Do not wrap damp hair in the towel
Even if you have this habit at the end of the shower, be aware that you could stress the locks. Damp hair is particularly fragile, so get rid of this habit and just pat it gently with a clean towel instead.
If you still like to wrap them in a towel, at least try to use a thin, soft microfiber one. This type of fabric is made of material that is gentle on the hair and dries it well without breaking it
Step 5. Brush your hair before going to sleep
Brushing them excessively every day can damage them and reduce their growth. Instead, run a boar bristle brush through your hair a few times before going to bed. In this way the sebum present on the scalp is better distributed over the entire length of the hair and keeps it naturally hydrated.
- Start at the head and proceed by brushing each section at least once.
- Brush them once a day before bed to increase blood circulation, improve health, and encourage growth. Although there is no scientific evidence to prove the effectiveness of this action, it is nonetheless certain that it improves overall hair health.
Step 6. Avoid using hot styling tools
One of the most common ways to damage your hair is to use tools that heat up, such as a hair dryer, straightener, and curling iron. Try to reduce their use or eliminate them completely from your hair care routine. Go for more natural hairstyles so you won't stop your hair from growing healthily.
If you still want to use these accessories, set them to the lowest possible temperature and apply a gel or cream that protects against heat so as not to damage your beautiful hair
Step 7. Cut your hair
While it may seem counterintuitive, going to the hairdresser to get a neat cut can actually stimulate fast and healthy growth. Trim your hair regularly to prevent split ends, thus reducing the need for cutting too often. Split ends can weaken the hair which, in this way, breaks at a point closer to the root; consequently you should go to the hairdresser more often and choose shorter cuts.
- The hairdresser should cut them about 3mm every 10 to 12 weeks to prevent harmful split ends. Try to schedule beauty salon appointments regularly to keep your hair healthy and free from split ends.
- How often you have to go and get your hair cut depends on how fast it grows and how damaged the tips are.
Method 3 of 3: Change Your Diet and Habits
Step 1. Take supplements to strengthen your hair
Multivitamin products formulated to improve hair health are a great solution, especially if your diet does not provide enough nutrients to stimulate it. Look for products that say "for hair", such as biotin tablets which in addition to this element contain vitamins C and B that promote hair health. Supplements can stimulate faster and healthier growth.
- Before taking any dietary supplement, you should speak with your doctor to make sure you are taking the correct dosage and that the product does not create negative interactions with your possible drug therapy.
- Biotin and other hair growth vitamins can work differently or cause different side effects on different people.
- Look for supplements tested by third-party testing bodies, such as CCPB, ICEA, or Ecocert.
Step 2. Eat protein rich foods
An increased intake of protein promotes healthy hair growth and helps not to lose too much. Make sure your diet has the right balance of meat, fish, beans, nuts, and whole grains. If you are a vegetarian you need to ensure that you get the right amount of protein through soy, beans, nuts and grains.
- If you want to follow a high-protein diet, it's important to choose your sources carefully. Avoid over-processed meat and high-fat dairy products, as they can cause other health problems.
- Also make sure you are getting adequate amounts of healthy carbohydrates that are high in fiber and nutrients, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables.
Step 3. Try the "inversion method"
It consists of putting yourself upside down, with your head at a lower height than your heart, to promote blood circulation in the scalp area. Follow the inversion method when lying down and dangle your head over the edge of the bed so your neck is supported by the edge. Try to stay in this position for 4-5 minutes a day. While there is no scientific data to prove its effectiveness, it is a harmless method that can encourage hair growth.
- Alternatively, you can also decide to do yoga positions, such as the downward dog, head or shoulder position. Your goal is to keep your head lower than your heart to increase blood circulation to the scalp.
- You can massage your scalp with coconut oil before turning your head upside down for four minutes a day to help promote hair growth.
- You can decide to measure your hair length early in the week to track your progress.
- After the inversion method, gradually and slowly return to the standing position, so as not to suffer from dizziness or fainting. At the end of the week measure your hair again and take note of how much it has grown in just seven days.
