Tug-of-war is a fun pastime for kids of all ages. There are many variations; this article explains the basic version of the game.
Steps
Step 1. Get a rope, preferably braided nylon (to prevent unpleasant skin burns)
Step 2. There is a need for at least two players
As an experiment, try to see what the difference is if you put more people on one side, or one strong person against a weaker one, or if two people can break the rope.
Step 3. Draw a line on the ground where the center of the string will be
This is the line beyond which the opponent must be taken to win.
Step 4. Read the rules
Introduce them to the other player as well. The rules are as follows:
The goal of the tug-of-war is to push the other player - or the other team - over the center line. To do this you have to use a rope and pull until the opponent does not cross the line in any way, or if he chooses to surrender. There must be the same number of players on each side, and no matter how strong or athletic they are
Step 5. Play
Some variations are listed in the recommendations.
Advice
- There are some fun variations of the tug of war:
- Put a bunch of leaves in the middle, and watch who falls into them if pushed over the line.
- Pretend that each player is on two blocks and everything else around is lava. Try to stay on the blocks as long as you can.
- Use a balance disc for each player, and try to push the opponent while you are in balance. If someone falls or gets off the puck, the other team wins.
- If you are at the lake, look for two piers that are not too far away and have deep water in the middle. Play tug of war and see who falls first in the water!
- Play tug of war on a water trampoline or regular trampoline while jumping!
- Each player can only use one hand.
- Wet the rope to make it more slippery.
Warnings
- If someone gives up on challenging another person, don't make fun of them or put pressure on them. Everyone has the right to say no.
- Do things safely. Nobody wants to come out with a bloody nose.
