The scented sachets are sachets, usually decorative, filled with a mixture of aromatic elements. The contents of a sachet can perfume the air, depending on its ingredients. The bags are used to give a decorative touch to a table, in the bathroom or in the linen drawers. You can create a simple one, or you can give free rein to your imagination!
Steps
Step 1. Draw the model
Decide which fabric to use. Often the bags are made with remnants of various material left over from other jobs.
Step 2. Decide on the size and shape of your bag
By far the easiest to make is a simple square or rectangle, but with a little patience and creativity you can give it any shape.
Step 3. Leave a minimum allowance of approximately 6mm for the hem
Cut out two scraps for each bag.
Step 4. Sew the two scraps together, with the decorated side on the inside
Leave a 5 cm opening for stuffing.
Step 5. Smooth the corners by cutting them obliquely
Step 6. Turn the bag over, so that the decorated side is on the outside
Step 7. Fill the bag with the scented concoction
See below for content ideas.
Step 8. Also sew the flap left open with a blind stitch (or slipped stitch)
Step 9. Put the bag wherever you like, and start using it
Advice
- Transfer the aroma mixture into a clean old pantyhose first to make sewing easier.
- Handle sharp tools carefully.
- It can be sewn by hand or by machine.
- You can fill your bag with:
- Dried lavender buds.
- Shavings (cedar ones are great).
- Soap flakes (ideal for adding to laundry, while lavender is perfect for the dryer!).
- Potpourri.
- Varied material imbued with perfume (it will probably need to be scented again after a while).
- Dried herbs.
- Spices (be careful that they do not release liquids that can ooze from the fabric).
- A mixture of lavender and dry hops in the pillow helps to induce sleep.
