Flavored pine cones are excellent for scenting rooms, but you can also use them for Christmas decorations or for a simple gift. Sprinkle the pine cones with fragrant spices by choosing one of the two methods described in this guide or, if you prefer, you can use essential oils.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: With Spray Glue
Step 1. Combine the cloves, cinnamon, and spices of your choice (perhaps the ones you'd put in a marinade) in a dish
Mix it well.
Add essential oils to the spices to add a more pungent aroma. You could choose patchouli, orange, cinnamon oil or tolu balm. Mix it well
Step 2. Choose enough pine cones to fill a pot
Step 3. Place the pine cones in a large plastic bag without overlapping them, forming a single layer
Step 4. Spray the pine cones with glue
Avoid inhaling the product. If possible, work outside if you don't have a well-ventilated area.
Step 5. Close the bag and shake it well
Continue until the pine cones form a single layer in the bag again.
Step 6. Open the bag again and sprinkle some more glue on the pine cones
Step 7. Sprinkle the spices on the pine cones and shake the bag again
Step 8. At this point, place the cones in a container or plate to dry them
Step 9. Place the pinecones in a mesh bag and shake them well to remove excess spices
If you carry out this step at home, the spices will end up everywhere, risking to make a mess, so it is better to do it outside.
Step 10. Put the pine cones in a plastic bag and close it with a nice bow
Alternatively, place them in a basket, then cover it with cellophane and decorate the package with a bow.
Method 2 of 3: With Glue and Sponge
Step 1. Mix the nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon in equal parts in a plastic bag
Step 2. Place the cones on newspaper or a plastic sheet, then cover them with glue using a sponge (or brush)
Step 3. Place the glue-coated pine cones in the spice-filled plastic bag
Shake well so that the spices adhere to the pine cones.
Step 4. Place the cones on the newspapers and let them dry overnight
Then you can use them to prepare gift baskets, or hang them on the Christmas tree.
Method 3 of 3: Glue-free
Step 1. Mix typical Christmas essential oils with water and pour the solution into a spray bottle
If you prefer, you can simply use cinnamon or clove essential oil.
Step 2. Sprinkle the pine cones with the scented water, then seal them in a plastic bag
Step 3. Take them out of the bag after 24 hours
At this point, you can use the scented pine cones to decorate your home, or place them in a gift basket.
