Large plant containers are incredibly expensive; however, you can build a huge pot that will outlive you and your offspring. You don't need a lot of money, just a little bit of work.
Steps
Step 1. Buy one of those plastic containers that are typically used by companies to transport liquids or sand
These items are built to be virtually indestructible and to withstand years of hard work on and off trucks.
Get a second-hand one. It is fine even if it has been used a lot; every scratch and dent saves you money. Choose a model with small legs that keep it off the ground
Step 2. Drill holes in the bottom following a lattice pattern
-
These holes allow for water drainage.
Step 3. Cut a piece of agricultural non-woven fabric to the right size for the container and secure it with duct tape
This material prevents the earth from coming out of the holes, but lets water through. The container is already equipped with small legs, so this method turns out to be perfect. You can use a knife to make some holes in the cloth, although they are not essential.
Step 4. Embellish the vessel
You can buy cheap wooden planks to make three panels. Simply rye and secure them from the back using screws that do not protrude from the front surface; be careful to take the measurements with extreme precision, in order to cut only once.
Step 5. Screw the panels together using angle brackets
If you wish, you can also nail rubber rings (thick tap seals are the cheapest option) under the planks to keep them slightly off the ground.
Step 6. Take steps to avoid using too much soil
If you organize yourself intelligently, you can use polystyrene to fill half the container creating a false floor without hindering the water drainage; in this way, the container is much lighter. Alternatively, you can limit yourself to pouring many bags of soil into it; larger amounts of land hold more water, which is a benefit for plants.
Step 7. Go to a garden center and buy some pretty plants on a special offer
You can purchase some wooden flower bed edging and arrange it around an ugly vase or large barrel to mix the concrete (you've drilled holes in) to turn them into pretty and inexpensive planters. The barrels are available at all DIY stores.
