Steps
Method 1 of 2: Method 1: Using Staples
Step 1. Look for a brightly colored fabric, felt is ideal
Take it 2 and a half sizes larger than your desired bag size.
Step 2. Fold the fabric in half (right side facing) and cut it to the desired size, leaving approximately 1-2cm of fabric for the seams
Keep the crease intact; try to keep all the cutouts intact, because they can be useful for making the handle.
Step 3. If you are in a hurry, block the two parallel sides about 1-2cm along the entire edge with the stapler, as if it were a seam
If you are not in a hurry, sew the bag the same way.
Step 4. Pin (or sew) the handle about 5cm below the top edge; one end of the handle on each side not sewn (you can help yourself with a safety pin by fixing it on the ends)
Step 5. Gently turn the inside of the bag outwards, being careful not to blow the stitches
The handle should appear as if it is attached to the inside of the bag.
Step 6. Now you can draw or paste designs, patches and anything else you want
The bag in the photo is approximately 38cm in length (including the handle) and takes about 10 minutes to make.
Method 2 of 2: Method 2: Using the Velcro
Step 1. Take 2 pieces of fabric that are slightly larger than the desired size for the bag
They can be the same color or different to give it a hippie look.
Step 2. Lay them on top of each other, right sides together, and sew three sides with the top open
The best way to sew them is to fold the fabric, which for this reason must be abundant.
Step 3. Sew or glue a piece of Velcro along the top opening, the alternative could be a zipper
Step 4. Sew the fabric handle to the top opening
Step 5. An interesting old method is to insert some wool thread into the edges
The wool thread must be 2-3 times wider to be fixed.
Advice
- The stapled bags are ideal for storing gifts or being used as decorations.
- Sometimes, when you turn a stapled bag over, the first two points pop off but can be easily remedied. Just fold the edges and staple them at the sides to create a hem.
Warnings
- Be careful giving a stapled bag to children - it could break and injure them.
- Crimped bags tend not to last long when used to carry heavy weights.
