Lighthouses have been used for a long time to help boats find their way at sea in the most difficult areas. Although many around the world have been closed and automated, they still remain a strong and romantic icon of the history of navigation and for those who love seafaring culture they represent everything related to the sea.
If you are a fan of drawing, you will find that lighthouses are enchanting artistic subjects and, while they are not that difficult to portray, giving each one the right character is a skill that develops over time. This article describes the basic techniques for learning how to draw a simple lighthouse.
Note: Follow the red guidelines found in each image.
Steps
Step 1. Start the drawing from the top dome of the lighthouse from which the light is propagated
Draw an oval shape and a semicircle above it.
Step 2. Add a stubby cylinder under the circular base
This completes the light dome area.
Step 3. Draw a larger cylinder just below the one you defined earlier
It represents the small space under the dome of light.
Step 4. Trace the rest of the outline of the structure
Outline the largest portion of the construction as a long cylinder.
- Define the layer joining the longer cylinder to the next one as shown in the figure. Draw a small and a larger circular shape.
- Add some details, such as the lines of the windows and the light itself. Refer to the image to understand how to place the various lines needed.
Step 5. Draw a sphere with an antenna on top of the roof
Go over the remaining edges with a marker and then erase the pencil guidelines to prepare the work for the next step of color.
Step 6. Color the drawing
The red and white stripe pattern you can see in the image is a stereotype used for demonstration purposes only and makes the lighthouse easily recognizable to the observer's eye; however, you can choose the colors you prefer and even leave the design in black and white.
Step 7. Practice drawing lights of different styles
There are many different constructions around the world; For more inspiration, pick up a book of lighthouses at your local library or do an online image search. Expand your "repertoire" by trying to track numerous lighthouses that interest you most.
