Goldfish are among the most common pets, as well as being very cute. Learn to draw one easily by following these steps.
Steps
Step 1. Draw the body
Create a pointed egg-shaped figure as an outline of the full body. Inside, draw a small oval for the head, a larger circle for the body, and a curved triangle for the tail (as in the illustration on the right).
Step 2. Draw a circle for each eye and a smaller one for the pupils
Add a curved line for the mouth. Your fish should look a little sad at this point - if you'd prefer it to be cheerful, switch to tracing its mouth facing up instead of down.
Step 3. Add the gills
Draw half a semicircle not far from the eyes. Put more if you want.
Step 4. Draw a triangle for the dorsal fin and two pointed hearts for the tail
The fins are quite large compared to the rest of the body, making up practically half of the total mass of the fish, so don't be afraid to abound.
Step 5. Draw a triangle for the fins on the chest and larger triangles for the ones on the abdomen
These fins are small, so be more cautious than in step 4.
Step 6. Add a few semicircles for the scales
They can be as large as you want, or even with different shapes, but stay in the edges and keep them at an even distance.
Step 7. Sketch some additional details for the fins and mouth
You will effectively give more vitality to the drawing. In fact, the more details you add, the better the fish will be, so use as many as you like.
Step 8. Review the lines and erase the draft
Don't mistake the scales or gills for unnecessary lines!
Step 9. Color
Goldfish are, of course, known for their bright orange, but you can safely switch species by simply tweaking the hues and patterns.
Advice
- See photos of real goldfish for inspiration.
- The seascapes are very easy to reproduce if you want realistic settings for your fish - just put some sand and wavy lines for the algae on the bottom, with streams of bubbles and maybe some other sea creatures sketched around the goldfish. You can also put it in a bowl with colored stones on the bottom, or in a giant aquarium. Use your imagination!
