Step 5. Cook
If you have cut the summer squash, you can cook it for about 20-30 minutes. If you have a winter squash, cut in half, the cooking time will be around 30-45 minutes.
Step 6. Check the doneness to see when it is ready
The pumpkin will be cooked when the pulp has softened and can be easily cut with a fork.
Step 7. Taste and correct the flavor, if necessary, by adding salt and pepper
Step 8. You can serve your pumpkin
Serve the small pieces as a side dish to the main course, in case you have opted for larger pieces, serve them individually or take out the pulp and make a puree.

Step 1. Rinse the pumpkin with running water and dry it with absorbent paper
Remove both ends with a knife.

Step 4. In a large skillet, heat extra virgin olive oil over a fairly high heat
If you want, you can flavor the oil by cooking bacon in it. Pour the squash into the pan, make sure you have removed the bacon first.

Cook the pumpkin until the pulp has taken on a nice dark color, a sign that it has caramelized properly.
Step 6. Remove the squash from the pan and serve
Taste it to see if you need to add more salt or pepper.
Step 7. You can serve the pumpkin in a nice serving bowl or as a side dish to the main course

In this phase, help yourself with a kitchen thermometer.

Advice
- Pumpkin is very versatile and goes well with both sweet and savory preparations. Try pairing it with brown sugar and cinnamon, or try sprinkling it with curry powder and roasting it.
- When choosing your pumpkin, look for one that feels firm and full to you. Winter squash has a thick, woody skin.
- You can buy winter squash at the grocery store, already cut and peeled, to save time. Just remember that, being already cut, it cannot be kept for more than a couple of days.
- If you want to make pumpkin soup, instead of peeling and boiling it, roast it in the oven cut in half. Then just separate the pulp from the peel and blend it. The flavor will be much more intense.
