Ginger water is a tasty and healthy drink to sip in the morning or throughout the day. It's easy to make - just use a small piece of ginger and fresh lemon juice. Although preparing the ingredients takes some time, once they are ready it takes a few minutes to mix them. Once the process is complete, you can treat yourself to a refreshing glass of ginger water.
Ingrediants
- 1 glass of water of 350 ml
- ½ lemon
- Small piece of ginger root of about 1.5 cm
Doses for 1 glass
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Peel the Ginger
Step 1. Cut off the tip of the ginger
Ginger root has a rounded edge that hasn't been cut previously. Remove it with a sharp kitchen knife, such as a meat or peeling knife. Both ends of the ginger should be flat.
Step 2. Remove the peel
Arrange the ginger vertically by placing it on one end. Run the knife along all sides of the root to remove the peel.
If you prefer, you can use a potato peeler. However, it is faster to remove the peel from the sides of the root with the help of a knife
Step 3. Chop the ginger using a cheese grater
Tilt the grater over a bowl. Press the ginger against the grater, then grate it using long, continuous movements. Grate it until you get a fine pulp.
Part 2 of 3: Squeeze the Lemon
Step 1. Cut the lemon in half
Use a sharp kitchen knife. Place the lemon on a cutting board or similar surface. Cut it in half in the center.
Step 2. Wash your hands
Moisten them under running water and massage them with hand soap. Rub it for about 20 seconds, making sure you reach the areas between the fingers, the back and the area under the nails. Then, rinse them thoroughly.
To keep track of the time, hum the tune of "Happy Birthday to you" twice in a row
Step 3. Hold the lemon suspended in a container, with the cut side facing up
Use a container such as a glass bowl. Hold the lemon in one hand, grasping it with your palm. The cut side should be facing up.
Step 4. Squeeze the lemon
Squeeze it with your hand as hard as you can. The juice should flow over your hand and sides of the citrus. Squeeze the lemon until the juice stops flowing continuously.
Step 5. Remove the seeds
By squeezing the lemon with the cut side facing up, you should prevent the seeds from getting into the juice. However, it can still happen that some fall into the liquid. If you see any, remove it with a fork or spoon.
Part 3 of 3: Mix the Ingredients
Step 1. Prepare a 350ml glass of room temperature water
Wait for the water temperature to reach roughly that of the room - you can check it with your finger.
- The time you have to wait depends on the temperature of the water when you pour it into the glass.
- Water at room temperature tends to mix better with ginger and lemon.
Step 2. Pour the lemon juice into the glass
Take the juice you made earlier and pour it into the water. Stir the solution with a spoon until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
Step 3. Add the ginger
Pour the grated ginger into the water. Stir with a spoon until you get a homogeneous mixture. At this point you can serve the drink.
You can add ice to serve it cold
Step 4. Store the water in the fridge
After preparation, the ginger water stays fresh for about 24 hours. If you don't finish it right away, keep it in the fridge overnight.
