Also called Jungle Juice or Purple Juice, Hunch Punch is a powerful cocktail. It is extremely popular on US college campuses mainly because it is very strong, but some also enjoy its pleasant and fruity taste. In any case, you don't have to live on a university campus to try it: it is a drink that lends itself perfectly to any type of party. With the right ingredients on hand, you can prepare it in no time. There is a simple version, a more elaborate one and one that requires you to add pieces of fruit.

Simple Hunch Punch
- 1 bottle of Everclear of 750 ml
- 4 liters of fruit punch
- Ice
Elaborate Hunch Punch
- 11 liters of fruit punch
- 450 ml of frozen orange juice
- 450 ml of pineapple juice
- 2 l of lemon and lime carbonated drink
- 2 l of ginger ale
- 1 bottle of Everclear of 750 ml
- 1 750ml bottle of vodka
- Ice
Hunch Punch with Fruit Chunks
- 1 750ml bottle of Everclear
- 1 750ml bottle of coconut rum
- ½ bottle of 750 ml vodka
- 450 ml of pineapple juice
- 4 liters of fruit punch
- Slices of orange and pineapple
- Ice
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Make a Simple Hunch Punch
Step 1. Empty the Everclear bottle into a large container
Take a 750ml bottle of Everclear and empty it into a large container. Everclear can be replaced with any type of clear, neutral-tasting ethyl alcohol. A single bottle is more than enough for a party with up to 10 guests. Instead, use 2 or 3 bottles if you have invited more people.
Traditionally, hunch punch is prepared in a 20-liter beverage cooler. If you're using one, make sure it's clean before you pour Everclear in it
Step 2. Add the fruit punch and mix
Once the Everclear is poured into the container, add 4 liters of fruit punch. Stir with a long-handled spoon to make sure you mix the fruit punch well with the alcohol.
- You can use a bottle of ready-made fruit punch or make it using powdered drink mixes. Just make sure you get 4 liters of fruit punch.
- If you plan on using multiple bottles of Everclear, you will also need larger amounts of fruit punch. Incorporate 4 liters of punch for every 750ml of alcohol.
Step 3. Add ice and serve
Once you have evenly blended the Everclear and fruit punch, add as much ice as you like to cool the drink. Pour the punch into the glasses using a ladle and serve it.
Don't want to use ice? Then you could leave the fruit punch in the fridge overnight, so that it is well chilled before adding it to the alcohol
Method 2 of 3: Make a more elaborate Hunch Punch
Step 1. Pour the fruit punch and juices into a large container
Take a 20-liter beverage cooler thermos or other large container. Pour in 11 liters of fruit punch, 450ml of frozen orange juice (thawed) and 450ml of pineapple juice. Stir well with a long-handled spoon to make sure you mix the ingredients well.
Fruit punch can be mixed with any juice you want. In fact, you could use grapefruit juice, cranberries, or pomegranate
Step 2. Add the fizzy drink and ginger ale
Once you have mixed the fruit punch and juices well, stir in 2 liters of lemon and lime soda, then add 2 liters of ginger ale. Mix all the liquids using a spoon.
You can use any type of carbonated drink you want, but those with a fruity or light taste are the most suitable. Flavored soda water is also a good option
Step 3. Incorporate the alcohol
Once the punch base is prepared, add the alcohol. Pour a full 750ml bottle of Everclear and a full 750ml bottle of vodka into the punch, then mix well to fully blend the ingredients.
If desired, Everclear can be replaced with another type of ethyl alcohol with a neutral taste
Step 4. Pour the punch into a glass using a ladle and serve
Once you've finished making the punch, pour it into glasses using a ladle. Add ice and serve.
Do not put ice in the large container. As it melts, it will water down the drink. Instead, put it in glasses before or after pouring the punch into them
Method 3 of 3: Make Hunch Punch with Fruit Chunks
Step 1. Pour all the alcohol into a large container
Empty a full 750ml bottle of Everclear, a full 750ml bottle of coconut rum and half a 750ml bottle of vodka into a large container, such as a 20L beverage cooler. Stir the spirits with a long-handled spoon.
Step 2. Incorporate juice, fruit punch, and fruit slices
Mix the spirits, add 450ml of pineapple juice and 4L of fruit punch. Then, stir in slices of orange and pineapple. Stir the entire mixture well to make sure you mix all the ingredients well.
- Pineapple juice can be substituted for any juice you want, such as orange, grapefruit or cranberry juice.
- You can incorporate any type of fruit you want into the punch. However, make sure it goes well with the juice for a pleasant flavor.
Step 3. Pour the punch over the ice
After mixing all the ingredients, fill the glasses with ice. Pour the punch over the ice using a ladle and serve it to the guests.
If you find the punch too strong, you can dilute it with a fruity carbonated drink, such as one made with lemon and lime
Advice
- Experiment with various combinations of juices, fizzy drinks, and punches to make the more elaborate version.
- Taste the punch before serving. If it seems too strong, dilute it with fruit punch, fruit juice, or a carbonated drink.
Warnings
- The last sip can be pretty strong, so stir the drink every now and then to make sure you mix the flavors together.
- Hunch punch is extremely strong, even though most people don't taste alcohol. Make sure you drink it in moderation. Alternate every single glass of punch with a glass of water and make sure you don't drink on an empty stomach.
- If you are planning to serve it at a party, make sure no guests drive after drinking it.
- Punch should only be consumed by adults.
