There is nothing healthier and more nutritious than a nice glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Preparing it can take a few minutes longer than opening a bottle or carton of ready-made juice, but the end result will pay off for every effort. Try making yourself a freshly squeezed orange juice and you won't be able to do without it. Let's see how to do it together.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: By hand
Step 1. Soften the oranges
Massage them with your hands or roll them onto the kitchen worktop, pressing them lightly with the palm of your hand.
Step 2. Cut it
Cut the oranges in half and remove the seeds. If you don't want to waste time removing seeds, buy a variety of oranges that does not have them.
Step 3. Squeeze the juice
Use a citrus squeezer and squeeze all the oranges you have cut with your hands.
Step 4. Add the pulp
With a spoon, remove the pulp left in the orange and add it to the juice. If you prefer to have only the liquid part, use a strainer to filter your juice before drinking it.
Step 5. Health
Enjoy your freshly squeezed orange juice, as healthy and natural as it was created by mother nature!
Method 2 of 3: Using an Electric Centrifuge
Step 1. Prepare the oranges
Cut each fruit into quarters and remove the peel. Small oranges, such as mandarins, can only be cut in half.
Step 2. Spin all the orange pieces
- Make sure you have mounted your juicer correctly and that you have placed the container to collect the orange juice.
- There are centrifuges on the market in which it is possible to regulate how much pulp must be extracted together with the juice.
Method 3 of 3: Using a Blender
Step 1. Prepare the oranges for blending
Remove the peel and cut them into pieces of about 2-3 cm. If you notice any seeds, remove them before pouring the oranges into the blender.
Step 2. Turn on the blender a couple of times, for a very short time, to break up the orange pieces
Then blend everything until you get a smooth and uniform orange smoothie.
Step 3. Taste the juice
If it feels too thick, add some water. If the taste doesn't seem sweet enough, add some sugar.
Step 4. Blend for a few more seconds, so as to mix everything well, and to allow the sugar to dissolve
Step 5. Let the juice rest for a few minutes before serving
Advice
- Try different varieties of oranges to find out which one offers the best juice. The Valencia variety has seeds, but it is very juicy, Navel oranges are very large and seedless. The Cara Cara variety is one of the sweetest, but it is also rarer to find than the others.
- To try a different flavor, use Moro oranges, also known as blood oranges. Their intense color and flavor will go very well with a spicy omelette.
Warnings
- There are many varieties of oranges, usually they are divided into two broad categories with red pulp and blond pulp. They can both be used to prepare a juice, but normally varieties with a thinner peel are used, while those with a slightly thicker peel are kept to be eaten fresh.
- Orange juice is irritating to the eyes, be careful.
- Do not cut yourself while you are cutting oranges.
