Steps
Method 1 of 4: Simple Gin and Fruit Juice
Step 1. Pour the gin and fruit juice into a shaker
As a general rule, you should use around 150ml of juice for every 45-60ml of gin. You can choose whatever juice you like, but acidic ones are more used than sweet ones.
- For a milder flavor, you can use pineapple juice, orange juice, pomegranate juice, cherry juice, or grape juice.
- For a slightly stronger flavor, you can use grapefruit or cranberry juice.
- You can also mix more juices if you keep the same ratio between juice and gin. Try mixing grapefruit and orange juice, cranberries and grapes, or one of your favorite combinations.
- Strong-flavored citrus fruits, such as lemon and lime, can be mixed with gin, but are generally combined with other ingredients, such as syrup or tonic water, to dilute its acidity.
Step 2. Shake the liquids together
Close the lid of the container and shake it vigorously up and down, being careful not to hit yourself or others. Shake for at least 15 seconds to fully mix the ingredients.
Step 3. Fill an iced tumbler with ice cubes
To freeze the glass, store it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes before using it. Fill the glass about half full with ice.
Step 4. Pour the gin and juice into the glass
Open the lid of the shaker and pour the contents onto the ice.
Step 5. Add a topping
A slice of a citrus fruit, such as lemon or lime, may be fine, depending on the juices you used in your drink. You could also use a small sprig of mint.
Step 6. Serve the drink immediately
To maintain the right balance of flavors, you should drink the drink before the ice has melted.
Method 2 of 4: Gin Rickey
Step 1. Mix the gin and lime juice in a medium glass
You can use the base of a shaker, a tumbler or any other clear glass. You only need the glass to mix the juice. It won't be what you use for drinking.
Step 2. Using a bartender's spoon, mix the juice and gin
This spoon is a special utensil with a very long shaft, specially created for mixing cocktails.
- Hold the spoon near the top of the rotated section with your thumb, forefinger and middle finger.
- Dip the spoon into the glass, close to the edges but without touching them. Rotate the rod, moving it both back and forth and up and down. Keep stirring for about 30 seconds.
Step 3. Fill an iced tumbler half to three quarters full with ice
Freeze the glass before use by keeping it 5-10 minutes in the freezer or 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Step 4. Pour the contents into the first glass into the second
Do this slowly and carefully to avoid spilling some of the drink.
Step 5. Add the tonic water to the drink
Do not shake or mix the tonic water, as this could cause it to lose gas. Instead, let the liquids mix naturally. Tonic water is very suitable for diluting the acidity of a juice.
Step 6. Add a garnish and serve
Step 7. You are done
Method 3 of 4: Gin Sour
Step 1. Fill the shaker with ice
Fill it halfway or a little more.
Step 2. Pour the gin, lemon juice and syrup into the shaker
A simple syrup is made up of equal parts of granular sugar and water, heated until the sugar dissolves. Syrups are very suitable for reducing the bitterness of alcohol and extremely acidic juices. Pour all three liquids into the shaker before closing it with the lid.
Step 3. Shake vigorously
The ice will cool the cocktail and help mix the ingredients. Continue shaking with your dominant hand, turning the top of the shaker away from you and others, for 15-30 seconds.
Step 4. Pour the drink into a cocktail glass
The shaker strainer should suffice, but you may decide to filter the liquid again with another strainer.
