Changing diapers is often a source of fear and fun not only for new parents but also for babysitters. Babies and toddlers who have not yet discovered the potty need to be changed every couple of hours to avoid skin rashes. Change the nappy by keeping everything you need close at hand, settling in a safe place and throwing away or rewashing the dirty nappy in the most correct way.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Have everything close at hand
Step 1. Keep your supplies close for easy access
- Place what you need next to or on the changing table, or on a bedside table in your bedroom if you change it on your bed.
- Pack a bag or backpack if you need to go out.
Step 2. Stack the diapers where you can easily reach them
When you go out, count on a clean diaper every two hours.
Step 3. Keep wipes and sponges together depending on what you use to clean the bottom during the change
Step 4. Fissan, talcum powder or petroleum jelly should always be kept handy on the changing table, especially if your baby suffers from diaper rash
Remember to keep some in your bag as well.
Step 5. Find a clean and safe place to change it
Use the changing table or a simple towel to place on the floor or bed.
Step 6. Wash your hands before and after the change
Method 2 of 3: Change the Disposable Diapers
Step 1. Place the back half of a clean diaper under the baby
The part with the adhesive flaps must be behind.
Step 2. Open the flaps of the dirty one
Close them inside so they don't stick to baby's skin or clean diaper.
Step 3. Remove the dirty diaper
If it's wet, slide it from under your bottom. If there's more to it than pee, use the front half to remove everything you can from the skin.
If you have a boy, cover your penis. Use another clean diaper or towel. Boys sometimes pee while you change them and you certainly don't want to shower
Step 4. Fold the dirty nappy and set it aside
You can throw it away once the little one is clean and safe from any height.
Step 5. Clean the bottom with a wet wipe or cloth
Check your back and between your buttocks to make sure there are no residues. Clean carefully
Step 6. Lift the front of the clean diaper
Attach the flaps to each side.
Make sure the diaper is tight enough. The skin must not get caught in the middle or turn red
Step 7. Dress the baby and place him on the floor or in a safe place while you throw the diaper and wash your hands
Method 3 of 3: Change the Reusable Diapers
Step 1. Open the clean diaper and follow the instructions on the package
Some of the recyclable ones have labels with instructions sewn on them.
Step 2. Open the flaps of the dirty one and lower the front
If it is wet, slide it out from under the baby and set it aside.
If you have a boy, cover his penis with a towel. In fact, during the change, children tend to urinate
Step 3. Use the dry half of the diaper to catch anything that sticks to the baby's bottom
Step 4. Wipe the washcloth or damp cloth
Also check your back and between your buttocks for any residue.
Step 5. Place the clean diaper under your butt and fold the front part over the baby's tummy to about navel height
Step 6. Close it
Use the flaps or Velcro fasteners that come with the diaper or possibly safety pins.
Cover the diaper with the waterproof panty if you usually use it
Step 7. Dress your baby and put him in a safe place while you clean the diaper and wash your hands
Step 8. Flush the debris down the toilet
Rinse the nappy before putting it in the washing machine.
Advice
- When changing a boy, keep your penis down. You will avoid unwanted splashes.
- Distract your baby while you change him, especially if he makes a fuss. Let him hold a toy or sing him a song.
