Steps
Step 1. To become a sports psychologist you must graduate in psychology after attending a reputable university
You can also enroll in sports psychology. This industry is in development so it shouldn't be difficult to find such a degree program.
Step 2. You will need to earn a master's degree in sports psychology or psychology
Most amateur or professional sports associations require a sports psychologist who has an advanced qualification. Hence, a master's degree and a doctorate.
Step 3. Get your PhD in Psychology
Without a doctorate, you will not receive sports psychologist certification.
Step 4. Apply for a sports psychology internship at a clinic, university or sports association
The internship can last for 1-2 years. Also, these are important because they are for learning things you may never learn by reading books. Most of the time, organizations hire their own interns, so you might as well have the great opportunity to work with them later.
Step 5. Pass the exam for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP), administered by the Council of the State Association and Provincial Psychology (ASPPB)
This is a council that will issue a license with which you can practice psychology in the 50 states. You can get it on university courses nationwide.
Step 6. Contact the American Council of Sports Psychology to obtain a certification
Your colleagues will help you because the ABSP requires colleagues to verify your academic achievements and work records. If you do everything as planned, you will have no problem getting certified.
Step 7. Start working as a sports psychologist
This industry is developing and therefore there are many opportunities available, so work hard to get the job position you want.
