Exchanges are only allowed between games of the same generation:
Generation I - Red, Blue, Green, Yellow
Generation II - Gold, Silver, Crystal
Generation III - Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green
Generation IV - Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver
Generation V - Black, White, Black 2, White 2
Generation VI - X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire
Generation VII - Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon Machoke can evolve into Machamp if you trade it with another player. This means you need to find a user with the same console and a game from the same generation as yours in order to trade with him. Once the Machoke has changed hands, which will evolve into Machamp, ask your friend to return it to you. If you are using an emulator, you must use an alternative method to be able to evolve this Pokémon.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Trading in the Game
Step 1. Find a friend to trade with, or use a second console and another copy of the game
To evolve Machoke you have to trade him with someone. Your friend must have the same console as yours and a game from the same generation of Pokémon to trade with you. From Generation VI you can trade with other people via the internet. Just make sure they know you want your Machamp back!
If you're using an emulator, it's not easy to swap Pokémon. If you are playing Generation IV, you can modify ROM files so that Machoke evolves simply by leveling up
Step 2. Make sure you meet the in-game requirements to trade
You cannot trade Pokémon with other users until you have achieved certain objectives. It shouldn't be a problem in most cases, but maybe you're trying to trade too soon.
- Generation I: You can trade after receiving the Pokédex from Professor Oak.
- Generation II: You can trade after giving the Mysterious Egg to Professor Elm.
- Generation III: You can trade after receiving the Pokédex from Professor Birch.
- Generation IV: You can trade after receiving the Pokédex from Professor Rowan.
- Generation V: You can trade after obtaining the Trio Medal and receiving the C-Gear.
- Generation VI: You can trade as soon as you have two Pokémon on your team.
- Generation VII: You can trade as soon as you reach the first Pokémon Center in the game.
Step 3. Put Machoke on your team (Generation I-IV)
In older titles, to trade a Pokémon you must have it on your team. In newer games, however, you can use all the ones you own.
Step 4. Connect the two devices
The connection method varies based on the consoles you are using.
- Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance: Connect the two systems with a Game Link cable. You cannot connect two different Game Boy versions. Enter the Union Room on the second floor of the Pokémon Center to find the other player.
- Nintendo DS: You can connect wirelessly with other consoles nearby. Generation V games have infrared functionality built into the cartridge.
- Nintendo 3DS: Press the L and R Buttons, then open the Player Select System. This way you will find people near you playing or you can connect to the internet and exchange online. When you trade your Machoke with another user over the internet, make sure they know you want the Pokémon back.
Step 5. Trade your Machoke
The Pokémon will immediately evolve into Machamp after the trade. Ask the other person to return it to you when the operation is complete.
Make sure Machoke doesn't hold a Rockstone, otherwise it won't evolve
Method 2 of 2: Evolving Machoke with an Emulator
Step 1. Get to know the method
You will use a special computer program that will modify the data of the ROM file. These changes will allow you to evolve Machoke into Machamp without having to trade it, but simply by training it up to level 37. You need a computer to follow this method, but you can transfer the modified ROM to a mobile device if you prefer to play when you are not at home..
Step 2. Download the Universal Pokémon Game Randomizer tool
This program allows you to modify ROM files, so that Machoke (and other Pokémon that evolve by exchange) can evolve in the traditional way, by leveling up. You can find this free application created by fans at pokehacks.dabomstew.com/randomizer/downloads.php.
Step 3. Extract the folder that contains the Randomizer tool
Right click on the downloaded ZIP file and select "Extract All". Follow the on-screen prompts to create a new folder for the program.
Step 4. Run the Universal Pokémon Game Randomizer
Double click on the "randomizer.jar" file. The Randomizer window will open, in which you will see various options.
You need to install Java on your computer to run Universal Pokémon Game Randomizer. Read How to Install Java to find instructions on how to install Java on your computer
Step 5. Click the "Open ROM" button and browse for the ROM file
If it's in ZIP format, you'll need to extract it before you can edit it with the Randomizer. You can use the program with ROMs of all generations (except VI).
Step 6. Check the "Change Impossible Evolution" box
You can find it in the "General Options" section of the program. This is the only setting you should change in the Universal Pokémon Game Randomizer.
Step 7. Click the "Randomize (Save)" button
This way all Pokémon that require trading to evolve will be modified. Don't worry if the button says "Randomize", no changes will be made if you haven't enabled the other options.
Step 8. Load the new ROM file into the emulator
Universal Pokémon Game Randomizer will generate a new ROM file that you can load into the emulator. Old saves will still work if all elements are in the correct place.
Step 9. Train Machoke to level 37 or higher to evolve him
The new ROM file will be modified so that Machoke evolves into Machamp at level 37 or higher. This will happen automatically upon leveling up, just like most Pokémon do.
