Chansey is a Pokémon introduced in the first generation of games, which from the second generation has the ability to evolve into Blissey. Unlike most Pokémon, it does not evolve once it reaches a specific level or with a trade. To do this, you need to increase his Friendship score by doing (and avoiding) a series of activities.
Steps
Step 1. Transfer Chansey to a Generation II or newer game (if needed)
This Pokémon can only evolve into Blissey from Generation II. If you are playing Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, or Green, you must transfer it to Gold, Silver, or Crystal to make it evolve.
You can trade a Pokémon from a Generation I to Generation II game, but not from Generation I or II to Generation III or later
Step 2. Learn how to evolve Chansey
This Pokémon evolves when its Friendship or Happiness score reaches a certain level. At the time of capturing a wild Chansey, its Friendship is at 70. To make it evolve, you need to increase this value to at least 220 (the maximum is 255). The procedure for doing this is similar in all games, but each of them has its own peculiarities.
Step 3. Check your current Friendship score
It is not easy to understand how many Friendship points your Chansey has, as this number is not visible in any of the game menus. To do this you need to talk to a specific person and understand the indication you are looking for from the sentence they will tell you. Make sure Chansey is the first Pokémon on your team before talking to the person. Below you will find phrases that suggest that your Pokémon's Friendship score is around 200-250.
- Generation II: Talk to the woman next to Goldenrod City bike shop, who will reply "I feel like she really trusts you." You can do the same in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
- Generation III: Find Mentania's home with a woman and a Pikachu. Talk to the woman, who will reply "She looks really happy! You see she loves you a lot." You can do the same in Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby. In RossoFuoco and VerdeFoglia, talk to Daisy in Pallet Town, who will reply, "He looks very happy. I wish [Rivale] would see him and learn something."
- Generation IV: Talk to Beauty in Hearthome City's Pokémon Fan Club, or Dr. Footprint south of the entrance to Pratopoli. They'll tell you "I have a feeling he really trusts you" (Diamond and Pearl), "He's pretty nice to you. It looks like you always treat him well" (Platinum).
- Generation V: Talk to the woman in the Icirrus City Pokémon Fan Club, who will reply "She's pretty friendly with you! You must be a nice person!". In Black 2 and White 2, you can call Bianca, who will say "You two get along really well! It seems like you are having fun together! You are cheerful and happy!".
- Generation VI: Talk to the Pokémon breeder at the Pokémon Fan Club in Romantopolis, who will reply "You have a thing for Chansey, huh? Always be together!".
- Generation VII: Talk to the woman next to Konikoni's TM shop, who will say "You have a thing for (Pokémon), huh? Always be together!".
Step 4. Keep Chansey on your team to increase her Friendship score
One of the easiest ways to get this score up is to keep the Pokémon on your team active. Every 256 steps you take (512 in Generation II) raises the Friendship level by 1.
Step 5. Level up Chansey
Each level up earns the Pokémon up to 5 Friendship points. The points earned decrease as the value of Friendship increases.
Step 6. Give Chansey the vitamins
These items increase the stats of Pokémon and each of them increases Friendship by a maximum of 5 points. Again, you will receive fewer points as your Friendship level increases. Vitamins include:
- Proteins
- PS Up
- Iron
- Zinc
- Football
- Fuel
- PP Up
- PP Max
- Rare candy
Step 7. Pamper Chansey with haircuts, grooming and massages
There are several activities that can raise a Pokémon's Friendship level, which vary by game version. In Generation III games, there are no massages or similar activities.
- Generation II: Talk to the Barbers brothers in the Goldenrod tunnel. Daisy Oak in Pallet Town also takes care of Pokémon between 3pm and 4pm.
- Generation IV: Talk to the girl about the massage in Rupepolis. You can find it in the house in the lower left corner of the town. The Spa treatment that you can buy inside the headquarters of the Fiocchi Association in the Resort Zone allows you to earn many points.
- Generation V: Talk to the massage lady in Austropolis. In Black and White, you can find it on the first floor of the western building of Southern Avenue. In B2 and N2, you can find it in the building opposite the Pokémon Center.
- Generation VI: Talk to the massage lady in the house west of the High City Pokémon Center. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, a groomer has been added to Cyclamen City, north of the PokéMile store.
- Generation VII: Talk to the massage lady at the Konikoni market.
Step 8. Capture Chansey (or Happiny) with a Chich Ball
These special orbs give a bonus to each increase in Friendship as long as Chansey remains inside them. Chich Balls are only available from Generation III onwards.
Step 9. Give Chansey the Calmanella
This item increases the amount of Friendship gained by the Pokémon holding it. Like the Chich Ball, it was introduced in the third generation.
You can use the Chich Ball and Calmanella together to further increase the bonus. This way Chansey will earn two more Friendship points every time she earns points
Step 10. Don't let Chansey KO
If Chansey passes out during a battle, she loses one Friendship point. Be sure to replace him if he is in danger and could be defeated.
Step 11. Don't use herbs
These items drop your Friendship level a lot. For example, the Vitalerba makes you lose up to 20 points, while the Polvocura from 5 to 10.
Always try to heal Pokemon at a Pokémon Center or with traditional healing items, which do not have a negative effect on the Friendship level
Step 12. Level up Chansey once she has a Friendship score of 220 or higher
Since you can't know the exact number, you have to guess based on the sentence that the characters mentioned in the article tell you. When you're pretty sure Chansey's Friendship score is high enough, level him up during a battle to kickstart evolution. You can use a Rare Candy if you prefer.
