Bricks are decorative Minecraft building blocks. They can make houses, towers, and other structures more interesting, or you can work them to make a solid staircase. They are also very useful for creating excellent non-flammable fireplaces. This article describes how to get bricks in Minecraft.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Melting the Bricks in a Furnace
Step 1. Look for the clay blocks
They are found near rivers and lakes or in water. You can recognize them by their gray and smooth appearance.
Step 2. Extract the clay blocks
You can do this with any utensil (even with your hands). However, the shovel is the fastest tool for this purpose. Once you break a block of clay using a shovel or your hands, you will see four clay balls fall.
Step 3. Build or find a furnace
You can do this with the workbench and crushed stone. Place 8 blocks of crushed stone around the central space of the bench creation grid, then hold Shift and click on the furnace to move it into the inventory. On console, select the furnace from the menu that also contains the workbench, in the Structures tab.
You can also find a furnace in blacksmith houses in villages or igloos
Step 4. Insert the clay balls into the furnace
Right-click or press the controller's left trigger to open the furnace. Next, select the clay balls from the inventory and place them in the box above the flame icon, which is located at the top of the furnace window.
Step 5. Put the fuel in the furnace
The most common are coal, charcoal and wood. Open the furnace and click on the fuel you want to use in your inventory, then move it to the box under the flame icon, located at the top of the furnace window. The clay will be melted automatically.
Coal is the most efficient fuel. You can find it in caves and on rock walls. Wood can be collected from any tree and you can burn it in the furnace to get charcoal
Step 6. Wait until all bricks have been melted
Depending on the amount of clay you put into the furnace, it can take a few minutes to get all the bricks. Use this time to take care of another task and return to the furnace when you're done.
Step 7. Take the bricks from the furnace
When they have all been melted, the fire in the furnace will stop glowing. Right-click on the furnace or press the left trigger on the controller to open it, then select the bricks, which are located in the box at the top right of the furnace window. Click on their icon while holding {{keypress | Shift}, or manually drag them to inventory.
Part 2 of 3: Making a Brick
Step 1. Build or find a workbench
With this item you can use bricks to create a block. To use bricks as building materials, you need to turn them into a block. You can make the workbench with four wooden blocks.
Step 2. Open the workbench
To do this, right-click on the desk or press the left trigger on the controller.
Step 3. Make a block of bricks
For each block you need 4 bricks. Open the workbench menu by clicking on it with the right mouse button or by pressing the left trigger on the controller. On console, select the brick block from the Structures tab. On the other platforms, place four bricks on the crafting grid to form a 2x2 square.
Note that, given the small size of the recipe, you can also create blocks in the inventory creation menu and completely avoid using the workbench
Step 4. Drag the brick block to the inventory
To do this, hold down Shift and click on its icon or drag it manually. You can use blocks of this type to make the structures you want, just like you would any other building block.
On consoles, all you need to do is have four bricks in your inventory, open the crafting menu, and select the brick block from the stone blocks section on the Structures tab. Press the left or right rear button to switch between tabs, then navigate through the options with the left stick
Part 3 of 3: Creating Objects with Bricks and Blocks of Bricks
Step 1. Make a brick slab
Brick slabs are half the size of a brick block and are useful for building steps. You can get six slabs from three blocks of bricks. On consoles, select the plate from the respective section of the Structures tab. On the other platforms, put three brick blocks in a row in the crafting menu.
Step 2. Get the brick slabs
Hold Shift and click on plates or drag them to inventory. On console, brick slabs are automatically added to your inventory once you select them from the crafting menu.
Step 3. Open the workbench
To do this, click on it with the right mouse button or press the left trigger on the controller.
Step 4. Create a series of brick stairs
With six blocks of bricks you can get four sets of stairs, which you can place in a row to create a ladder to go up and down. On console, select brick stairs from the respective section of the Structures tab. On the other platforms, place the brick blocks in a row along the bottom of the crafting menu, followed by two blocks in the left two boxes of the middle row and a single block in the upper left corner, to create a shape that you remember a ladder.
- Place a block of bricks in all three spaces on the bottom row of the crafting grid.
- Note that 2 blocks are always wasted creating stairs this way, so it is more convenient to build them using a chisel, which has a 1 to 1 ratio of blocks to stairs.
Step 5. Take the brick stairs
Hold down Shift when clicking on them or manually drag them into inventory. On consoles, brick stairs are automatically added to your inventory once selected.
Step 6. Make a flower pot
To make this item, you need three bricks (the items, not the blocks). On console, select the flowerpot in the Decorations tab. On the other platforms, place a brick in the following spaces of the crafting grid:
- One in the middle box;
- One in the upper left corner;
- One in the upper right corner.
Step 7. Collect the flower pot
To do this, hold down Shift and click on the item or manually drag it into the inventory. On consoles, it will automatically be added to your inventory when you select it from the crafting menu.
Advice
- Brick blocks can spawn as part of certain buildings in lowland villages and, starting with version 1.13 of the game, they can appear as part of some underwater ruins; however, in neither case will you be able to get large amounts of bricks.
- Bricks can be traded with mason villagers: 16 bricks for an emerald (Bedrock Edition) or 10 bricks for an emerald (Java Edition). This is the best way to get large quantities of bricks.
