Mad Father is a game created by Sen using World RPG Editor. This game was originally released in Japan and soon translated by Vgboy, the same person who translated famous indie games like Witch's House and Ib.
Mad Father's story is about a young girl, Aya Drevis. Like any ordinary girl, Aya loves her father more than anything else. One night, on the evening of the anniversary of her mother's death, young Aya is awakened by her father's cry; he soon finds his home overrun with walking corpses and creatures from beyond the grave. Determined to save her father, Aya discovers the truth. Warning: This guide contains heavy spoilers.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Achieving the First Tragic Ending
Step 1. Choose “Grant Mom's wish”
At the end of the game, after having spent an entire adventure in the cursed mansion, you will have to face one last choice; the ending will change depending on the choice you make.
You have to choose between "Grant Mom's wish and let her take Father away" or "Use ogre's magic water to save Father." Choose the former to have your father taken away
Step 2. Watch the video
The tragic ending cutscene will begin, revealing Aya all alone in the room. Go north until you find Maria, still distraught. Aya will tell her that her father is gone and that they are left alone.
- In the next frame, Aya and Maria are in the chapel, praying for her parents, but when Aya is about to tell Maria that she can stay with her, the assistant jumps up and runs towards the girl. A cry will be heard in the dark.
- In this ending, it is clear that Maria has lost her mind after the disappearance of her father. A frame in the game will show Aya lying on an operating table, with blood spreading under her, while Maria stands next to her, declaring that she will take on the duty of continuing the doctor's work.
Part 2 of 3: Achieving the Second Tragic Ending
Step 1. Don't help Maria
During the game, remember that you don't have to help Maria. The game will continue even after you leave the secret room. Also, if you get a door key from Maria, don't use it. Continue the game until you almost reach the end.
Step 2. Choose to save the father
Finish the game normally and solve the necessary puzzles. After you get through all the adventure and story, you will have choices to make towards the end of the game.
- There is no need to worry about the incomplete collection of gems as this will not affect the ending of the game.
- Choose to save your father to get the second tragic ending, which will begin shortly after.
- Spoiler: Aya's mother walks away from her daughter, surprised by her decision. A bright light will appear and Aya's mother will vanish.
- In a later frame, I'm back in the room with Aya's father close by. In this part the truth will be revealed, showing that the doctor, Aya's father, has betrayed the girl's mother.
- Aya's mother takes possession of the little girl to show her the whole story, the truth about her father's experiments and how she died.
- Aya's father is shown to be conducting research on how to turn the human body into dolls, and he intended to do this research on his precious daughter to preserve her beauty.
- The doctor kills Aya's mother when she tries to stop him, stabbing her in the chest until she dies.
- After seeing what happened, Maria is in complete shock. She didn't want this to happen to her mistress but she is afraid of being killed, so she does what Aya's father tells her. Together, they take care of the mistress's body, and he tells Aya that her mother has died of illness.
Step 3. Run as fast as you can
After the cutscene, be sure to save your game. It will be the part where the doctor chases Aya with a chainsaw, determined to kill her and turn her into a doll, just like her mother.
- Aya's father will slowly approach you. Press Z as fast as you can to open the door and escape!
- Do not stop. Go through the corridor. Run through the last part of the corridor and wait for Aya's father to approach.
- As soon as it stops, pull the lever and run past it and heading north.
- As soon as you arrive in a room, you will find Maria, and a cutscene will play.
- The doctor will eventually reveal his true character. He also uses the chainsaw to attack Maria. Aya will check Maria and realize that she is still alive.
- The game then presents you with a choice; the ending will change depending on the decision you make.
- You are likely to die a couple of times from the difficulty of the game.
Part 3 of 3: Deciding whether to Help Mary Or Not
Step 1. Don't help Maria
If you have decided that Maria deserves to die, Aya will leave the room and return to the corridor with the sandbags.
- In this part of the story, you will get the third tragic ending. The father will find Aya and kill her with the help of his dolls.
- A black screen will appear with a horrifying cry. In the next frame, you will see Aya sitting in a chair, in a beautiful dress, motionless and lifeless. Aya's father successfully transformed her into a doll, a perfect princess with eternal beauty.
Step 2. Help Maria
This is the best and happy ending to the game. Choose "Help Maria" and then look for bandages to take care of her wounds. Together, you and Maria will search for an escape, but the loud sound of a chainsaw will be heard in the distance.
- Maria will ask you to leave her there, and despite Aya's best efforts to convince Maria, the little girl will go away on her own.
- In the chapel, the same thing will happen as when you choose “Don't help Maria”. A doll will appear to hold Aya down to keep her from escaping while the doctor holds the chainsaw above her head, ready to shred her daughter.
- Before the chainsaw hits Aya, however, knives pierce the doctor's body. The man falls to his knees, blood spilling to the floor beneath him. Maria did it and helps Aya. She also gets rid of the doll that holds her steady with a swipe of her knife.
- Other scenes appear after this, including the appearance of God and how Maria and Aya escape from the mansion.
- Later in the game, Aya is shown to have become a doctor and Maria has stayed with her. There is a but, however; instead of becoming a better doctor than her father, Aya makes the exact same mistake - turning people into dolls.
- Maria speaks before the end of the game. "Indeed, the mistress is much like you."
