This wikiHow teaches you how to edit a Microsoft Office document on Dropbox without having to download it.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using a Computer
Step 1. Visit
You can use any browser you have installed on your computer, such as Chrome or Firefox, to access Dropbox.
If you are not logged in, enter the necessary data to log in before proceeding
Step 2. Click on the document you want to edit
This will open the preview of the file.
You can edit any Office document, including spreadsheets, slide presentations, and files written in Word
Step 3. Click Open
This option is located in the upper right corner of the document. The file will be opened using the relevant Microsoft Office Online application, such as Word Online (for documents) or Excel Online (for spreadsheets).
Step 4. Make changes to the file
As you make changes, they will automatically be saved in the document on Dropbox.
Method 2 of 2: Using a Mobile Device
Step 1. Open Dropbox
The icon looks like an open blue box and is usually found on the Home screen or in the application menu (if you're using Android).
Step 2. Select the file you want to edit
The preview of the file will open in the Dropbox app.
- On your mobile device, you can edit any Office document, including spreadsheets, slide presentations, and documents written in Word.
- If you have not installed the application required to edit the file (such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint), you will be prompted to do so immediately.
Step 3. Tap Edit
There are two possible results:
- If you've already installed the right application (like Excel to edit a spreadsheet), the file will open like this.
- If you don't have the right application, its page in the App Store or Play Store will open. Install it, go back to the file on Dropbox and then tap "Edit" again to work on the document.
Step 4. Make changes to the file
As you make changes, they will be automatically saved within the file on Dropbox.
