Now all "gamers" who want to enjoy their favorite Xbox video games even on Windows systems can do so simply by connecting the Xbox One console to a computer with a Windows 10 operating system. The latter integrates an app called Xbox., which allows players to log into their Microsoft accounts, to enable direct streaming between the console and the computer. To play an Xbox One title on your computer, you need to enable streaming and make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi or LAN network.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Setting Up the Windows Computer
Step 1. Verify that the computer you want to use meets the Microsoft system requirements
The device must have at least 2 GB of RAM memory. This is a prerequisite for smooth, seamless audio and video streaming between your computer and console.
Step 2. Go to the "Start" menu, then choose the "Check for Updates" option
Step 3. Select the option to install any available updates for Windows 10
This way you can be sure that your computer is up to date and ready to be used in conjunction with the Xbox One console.
Step 4. Go back to the "Start" menu and select the "Xbox" app
By default this application is accessible directly from the "Start" menu of all devices running Windows 10.
Step 5. Now log in to the Xbox Live service using your Microsoft account credentials
If you haven't signed up for Xbox Live yet, choose the option to do so now. You are now ready to set up Xbox One to stream to your computer.
Part 2 of 4: Set up the Xbox One console
Step 1. Make sure the Xbox One is connected to the same LAN that your computer is connected to
Microsoft programmers recommend using a wired connection via Ethernet network cable for best performance.
Step 2. Turn on the console and allow any available updates to be installed automatically
This way you can be sure your console is up to date and ready to stream to your computer.
Step 3. Press the "Menu" button on the controller, then choose the "Settings" option
Step 4. Choose the "Preferences" item, then select the "Allow game streaming to other devices" checkbox
You are now ready to connect the console to the computer.
Part 3 of 4: Connect the Computer to the Xbox One
Step 1. Select the "Connect" item located in the left sidebar of the Xbox app on your computer
The application will automatically scan the LAN for all Xbox One consoles available to connect.
Step 2. Choose the name of the Xbox One you want to connect to
By default all consoles have the same name: "MyXboxOne". After choosing the console, the computer will automatically connect and you will see some additional options appear on the screen (within the Xbox app of the computer).
Step 3. Connect the Xbox One controller to your computer using the supplied USB cable
If your Windows 10 device doesn't have USB ports, you'll need to purchase a USB to micro-USB adapter.
Step 4. Now select the "Stream" option, then choose the video game you want to play
Step 5. Choose the "Play from console" item
The chosen game will automatically start on the Xbox One and the audio / video streaming of the signal will begin to be sent and played on the computer. Now you are able to play any Xbox One video game directly from your computer running Windows 10.
Part 4 of 4: Troubleshooting
Step 1. If you're having trouble logging into the Xbox app, make sure your computer is set up to automatically set the correct date and time
In some cases, a discrepancy in this information can cause a problem during the synchronization phase between your computer and Xbox One.
Step 2. If you encounter any errors after selecting the "Connect" option from the Xbox app, try manually setting the console's IP address
To do this, access the "Settings" of the Xbox One, choose the "Network" item, select the "Network Settings" option, then choose the "Advanced" item.
Step 3. If you notice connection lag while streaming games or if playback stops, consider switching to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection
This connection mode can help in making streaming transmission smoother and more efficient.
Step 4. If you are using a wireless connection and streaming playback is having trouble, try moving the Wi-Fi router closer to the console
This step can resolve connection issues that can be the cause of slow streaming playback and excessive latency.
Step 5. If you are unable to obtain satisfactory streaming playback quality and are unable to make a wired connection between your computer and console (for example due to too much distance), consider purchasing a Powerline network card or MoCA (from the English "Multimedia over CoAx")
Powerline network cards allow the signal to be conveyed directly through the electrical network, as if it were a high-speed wired network. On the contrary, the MoCA network cards allow you to use the system on the coaxial cable (the one that carries the satellite signal) already existing in the house as if it were a high-speed wired network.
Step 6. If the streaming playback is affected by lag or if it is not very smooth, try changing the quality of the video signal
In some cases the problems that occur are caused by the default configuration settings related to audio / video streaming.
- Launch the Xbox app on your computer, choose "Settings", then select the "Game Streaming" option.
- Choose the "High" option, then resume the game to see if the situation has improved. If not, try using a "Medium" and then "Low" video encoding level until you find the optimal configuration for both devices.
