This article explains how to shop in stores using your PayPal account on an iPhone or iPad. You can make purchases in many stores by paying directly with the PayPal app or through Apple Pay to which you can link your PayPal account.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using the PayPal App
Step 1. Launch the PayPal app on the iPhone or iPad
It is characterized by a blue icon with the white letter "P" inside. Normally it is placed directly on the Home of the device.
Remember that not all stores accept PayPal as a payment method
Step 2. Log into your account
Enter your credentials to login (or identify yourself by typing your secret PIN), then press the button Log in.
Step 3. Scroll down the appeared screen and choose the Goods and Services option
It features a blue icon depicting a stylized shop window.
- If this is your first time using this PayPal app feature, you will need to press the button Start when required.
- If you have not configured the PayPal app to be able to access the device's location services, you will need to do so now by following the instructions that will appear on the screen.
Step 4. Select the store where you are
Type the name of the store in the text field located at the top of the screen, then select it from the list of results that will appear.
If the store isn't listed, it doesn't accept direct payments through the PayPal app
Step 5. Select the payment method
If you don't want to use your account's default payment method, select it to view the other menu options, then choose the payment method you want to use.
Step 6. Show the cashier the payment code
The shop assistant will check its validity and complete the payment.
Method 2 of 2: Add PayPal to Apple Pay
Step 1. Launch the iPhone Settings app
Normally it is placed directly on the Home of the device. The procedure described in this method explains how to link your PayPal account to Apple Pay so that the cost of purchases is deducted from the PayPal account.
Remember that not all businesses accept payments through Apple Pay
Step 2. Tap your name
It is displayed at the top of the device screen.
Step 3. Select the iTunes Store and App Store item
Step 4. Tap your Apple ID
It is located at the top of the screen. A new menu will appear.
Step 5. Select View Apple ID
It is the first option on the menu that appeared.
Step 6. Enter your security code or identify yourself with Touch ID
After you are logged in, the screen for your Apple account will appear.
Step 7. Select the Payment and Shipping tab
A list of payment methods will be displayed.
Step 8. Select the PayPal item
It is displayed in the "Payment Methods" section.
Step 9. Choose the Log in to PayPal option
Step 10. Follow the on-screen instructions to authenticate your PayPal account and pair it with your Apple ID
This will set up PayPal as Apple Pay's default payment method.
Step 11. Use Apple Pay to make purchases in affiliated stores and be able to pay with your PayPal account
The steps to take vary depending on the iPhone model you have:
- iPhone 8 and earlier models: Place your finger on the Touch ID, then place the top of the iPhone within 2-3 cm of the Apple Pay reader. When the payment is complete you will see the word "Done" appear on the iPhone screen.

double-tap the side button on the device, sign in using your passcode (or use Face ID recognition), then place your iPhone within 2-3cm of the Apple Pay reader. When the payment is complete, you will see the word "Done" appear on the iPhone screen.
