Facebook has practically replaced the internet. With Facebook Connect, users can now log into many websites with their Facebook account. While this is convenient for accessing websites and eliminates the need to create new user accounts, it still means that it may share many of your personal data and internet usage habits with those third-party sites. Read this article for information on how to disable a Facebook Connection with a website.
Steps
Step 1. Open your Facebook page
Make sure you are logged in correctly. You should be on your profile or timeline.
Step 2. Click on the “Settings” button
It is located in the upper right corner of the Facebook page and looks like a cog. From the menu, select "Account Settings".
Step 3. Click on the "Applications" option
It is located in the menu on the left of the "Settings" page, towards the bottom of the list.
Step 4. Navigate through the connections
After you click on “Applications”, a list of all the applications and websites that you have linked to your Facebook account will be displayed. You can adjust individual settings for each application on this list.
Step 5. Specify the permissions for each application
Click on the "Edit" link on the right of the application or website you want to edit. A new list of options and settings specific to that application will appear.
- Depending on the site application, you can change who can see messages, what data the application has access to, how notifications are managed and more. Individual authorizations can be deleted by clicking on the “X” next to the item.
- When you are done, click on the "Close" link at the top of the box.
Step 6. Delete a connection with an application or site
If you want to completely remove the connection between your Facebook account and a certain site or application, click on the "X" icon next to the "Edit" link for that application. You will receive a message telling you that your connection has been deleted. Click "Remove" to confirm.
- The application and the site may still have stored your old information, because you previously shared it. You will need to contact the company that owns that application or site to try to delete your data.
- When you delete the link to a site, your ability to interact with that site will likely be limited until you reactivate Facebook Connection.
