For whatever reason (immoral or otherwise), you may want to bypass your school or workplace's internet security filter. You can do this with a useful program called The Onion Router. Before proceeding, you should find out whether bypassing your organization's internet filter is against the rules.
Steps
Step 1. First of all, if you don't have Firefox, install it on your computer
Step 2. Install Tor (the onion router) on your computer, making sure you are using the version suitable for your school computers (if your school uses Windows computers, download the version for Windows)
You can also install the Tor package with your browser to save time. See the Tor site for more information.
Step 3. Start Tor and make sure it says "Congratulations
You're using Tor."
Step 4. By default, one of your bookmarks under the URL address bar should be named "TorCheck"
Click it, then click "START".
Step 5. Wait patiently for the process to finish and make sure everything is working (otherwise run the troubleshooter)
Step 6. TorCheck will list any security problems and provide you with links where you will find the solutions
Click on the links and get the solutions!
Step 7. Now take your USB stick and insert it into your computer
Then, copy (right-click and choose Copy) the Tor browser folder (which should be on your desktop or where you saved it in step 2) and paste it (right-click and choose Paste) to your USB stick.
Step 8. Then, (if you have not installed the Tor browser package) navigate to the Firefox website and download the browser making sure to save / download / install it on the USB stick
Step 9. Take out your USB stick and take it where you want to take it
Step 10. Insert the key and start it
Double click on the "Start Tor Browser" icon, and wait for Tor to load. Also, you will have to wait for the Firefox browser to load.
Advice
- If the TOR browser does not start, your workstation network is blocking connections to the TOR network. You will need to find and use a Tor Brigde, i.e. unregistered connections.
- To keep the USB folder neater, you could first move all Firefox downloads to a separate folder, and then link them to the root USB folder.
