In some regions of Asia and the Middle East such as Iran, China and Afghanistan, governments have set up an internet filter system that makes sure that people who connect in these states cannot reach 70 % of existing sites. For example, Facebook is blocked by this type of filter in Iran. It's something really annoying, but it's nothing new. With this article we will teach you how to bypass this type of filter.
Steps
Step 1. Change your IP and your proxy server
By doing this, you will no longer be in your country! Or rather, you will be there physically, but virtually not. Just put the IP of a country that has no internet filter, for example Germany or the USA (it depends on the anti-filter software or your new IP). One way to change IP is through software called "Ultra Surf". This program has many versions, but one you can easily find is Ultra Surf 9.8. To find this program go to Google and type "download u98" (you will then have to choose download in the Farsi language), then look for a site that has not been blocked and download the program. After downloading it, open the program and wait for it to connect - then you can surf the internet for free, albeit not too fast!
- Another very safe software to change IP is "Tor". Search Google and find an unblocked site to download it from. Then, extract the downloaded file and run it. The program will start and connect. Tor uses three IPs at a time, so you're connecting across three different countries at the same time! This is what makes it very safe, although not too fast.
- Another software that you will be able to download very easily is "Free Gate". Probably, it is the easiest to use to browse the internet freely. You will just have to google for a site to download it from (most of the sites where you can find it are NOT blocked in Iran at the moment), then open it and wait for it to connect. At that point, it will show you your new IP address and you can browse the internet without any problem. Also, it won't decrease internet speed like the programs we mentioned earlier.
Step 2. Think about using VPN
VPN is an anti-filter you should buy. But where? There are a lot of ads on Iranian sites advertising the sale of VPNs, but you don't have to trust them - many are from the government which, at that point, could easily control you. Be warned: many people are arrested in just this way. The safest way to buy VPNs is in internet cafes - they are the ones who create VPNs and sell them. They give you a program to connect, a username and a password. At that point, you use the program with your credentials and connect from another country, for example the USA. Then you can surf the internet quickly and without problems.
Step 3. Try Socks
Socks is like a VPN and is available on the internet, but for the same reasons it is better not to buy it online but in internet cafes. It's like a VPN, but it's not that easy to use. When you buy it, the retailer will explain how to use it. It's the best way to bypass the internet filter, it's very safe and really fast!
Advice
- VPN prices vary widely. It depends on the country and the expiration date. For example, in the USA it is very expensive.
- "Free Gate" has a policy against the use of porn.
- Socks expires one month after first use and, at the end of this period, you will be able to recharge it. VPN, on the other hand, is not rechargeable and expires permanently at the end of the period of use.
- Remember that Ultra Surf only works with Internet Explorer, unless you configure your browser to use its proxy. You will find additional information in the Ultra Surf instructions (Google Chrome also uses the same settings as Internet Explorer, which means you won't have to configure it).
- When using VPNs, if you are not doing anything political or SHARING any kind of pornography, you can use the ones from Germany, which are very cheap. But if you're doing either of those two things, use US VPNs to be safe.
Warnings
- Sometimes you may have trouble buying VPN in Iran due to the American embargo. Online payments that come from Iran are often not accepted.
- When you are buying VPNs or Socks, be sure to choose a certain internet cafe or get help from a friend who can take you to a trusted internet cafe.
- If you are going to Iran on vacation, buy VPNs before you leave. In case you are already there, you can ask a friend or family member to pay for the VPNs for you. If this is not possible, contact your provider for the VPN service and get advice on how to buy VPN from Iran.
- Watch out: if you are doing something political against the Iranian government, use the safest method or you could be arrested, and there is no guarantee that you will be released!
